Principal Solution Architect

Location: Braine-l’Alleud, Belgium

Contract: Full-time, on-site

Duration: Initially until 30 December 2026

Rate:€85 per hour

Clearance:Current, valid NATO Secret clearance required

We are seeking an experienced Principal Solution Architect to support a major requirement in Braine-l’Alleud, Belgium.

This is a senior architecture and engineering role focused on complex solution architecture, requirements management, systems development and network design within a NATO environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the development of architectures for complex solutions, ensuring alignment with agreed requirements.
- Establish and apply architecture policies, principles and practices.
- Manage functional, service-quality and systems-management trade-offs.
- Coordinate target architecture across multiple projects and initiatives.
- Lead scoping, requirements definition and prioritisation for large, complex initiatives.
- Manage stakeholder requirements, competing priorities and changes.
- Drive adherence to systems-development standards, including security and privacy.
- Manage technical resources and ensure technical, financial and quality objectives are achieved.
- Produce and/or approve network architectures, topologies and configuration designs.
- Define network connectivity, capacity, security and access requirements.
- Assess network risks and develop recovery and contingency procedures.
- Create architecture views addressing functional and non-functional requirements.

Essential Experience & Qualifications





- Master’s degree in a related discipline with 5 years’ post-related experience, or Bachelor’s degree with 8 years’ post-related experience.
- Proven experience managing teams of technical personnel.
- Knowledge of current and future Mobile Infrastructure, including deployable, dispersible and highly mobile CIS technologies.
- Experience in design and systems integration, including power distribution, emergency power generation, fuel storage and UPS systems.
- Strong understanding of wireless technologies, including SATCOM.
- Experience with architecture modelling languages such as UML, SysML or ArchiMate, preferably within frameworks such as NAFv4, TOGAF, DODAF or Zachman.
- Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
- Experience applying quality assurance practices.
- Experience in development, implementation, fielding, testing and maintenance of modern communications equipment.
- ITIL Foundation certification.
- PRINCE2 Foundation or equivalent project-management certification.

Desirable

- Knowledge and practical experience with NATO Architecture Framework (NAF) v4.
- Experience applying Federated Mission Networking (FMN) in service design.
- Previous experience working in an international environment involving military and civilian personnel.
- Knowledge of NATO organisation and responsibilities, including ACO and ACT.
- PRINCE2 Practitioner/PMP.
- ArchiMate, TOGAF or equivalent certification.

Security Requirement

Applicants must hold a current, valid NATO Secret security clearance. This is an essential requirement for the assignment.
