The Role
We are looking for an entrepreneurial and commercially driven Trader / Business Development Manager – Chemicals & Petrochemicals to join our European team.
This is not a purely execution-oriented trading position. The successful candidate will be expected to participate across the full commercial cycle, from identifying market opportunities and sourcing products to customer development, pricing, negotiation, deal structuring, and transaction execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop trading and business opportunities in the European and international chemicals, petrochemicals, and energy markets.
- Monitor market fundamentals, pricing, regional supply-demand balances, arbitrage opportunities, import/export flows, and competitor activity.
- Develop and maintain relationships with end users, distributors, traders, industrial customers, and strategic partners.
- Identify and evaluate suppliers across Europe and international markets.
- Manage commercial enquiries, quotations, negotiations, and transaction structuring.
- Evaluate purchase prices, sales prices, freight, financing costs, duties, and transaction margins.
- Structure trades under Incoterms including FOB, CFR, CIF, DAP, and other relevant delivery terms.
- Coordinate logistics, warehousing, shipping, customs, insurance, payment terms, and credit-risk matters.
- Build and maintain databases covering customers, suppliers, product availability, and market pricing.
- Develop opportunities for annual contracts, framework agreements, regional distribution, and strategic cooperation.
- Work closely with colleagues across China, Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
- Identify new products, market niches, and commercially viable business models.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree or above in International Trade, Chemicals, Energy, Economics, Finance, Supply Chain, Business, or a related discipline.
- Relevant experience in chemicals, petrochemicals, energy, commodities, industrial raw materials, or international trading.
- Experience in one or more of the following product areas is highly desirable:
- Petrochemicals
- Polymers
- Methanol
- LPG
- Sulphur
- Petroleum Coke
- Base Chemicals
- Biofuels / Green Fuels
- Strong commercial judgement and market awareness.
- Good understanding of international trade, logistics, payment terms, and transaction risks.
- Proven ability to develop customers and/or suppliers independently.
- Existing relationships within the European chemical, petrochemical, or energy sector are a strong advantage.
- Previous experience with a trading house, chemical distributor, producer, refinery, petrochemical company, or commodity business is highly valued.
Language Requirements
- Professional working proficiency in English is required.
- Spanish is highly desirable.
- French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, or other European languages are considered an advantage.
- Chinese is not required.
