Applications are invited for a research support position in the Damian Blasi Lab https://www.damianblasi.org/, at the Centre for Brain and Cognition https://www.upf.edu/web/cbc, Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona). The position is part of the - Branco Weiss Fellowship 2020 and the the 2025 Schmidt Science Polymath Program.

The position is for 12 months.

Dr. Blasi researches diversity and the evolution of languages.

Es convoquen sol·licituds per a una plaça de suport a la recerca al Laboratori Damian Blasi https://www.damianblasi.org/, al Centre de Cervell i Cognició, https://www.upf.edu/web/cbc, Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona). La posició forma part de la beca Branco Weiss 2020 i del programa Schmidt Science Polymath 2025.

La posició és de 12 mesos.

El Dr. Blasi investiga la diversitat i l'evolució de les llengües.

Funció a desenvolupar/ Tasks to be performed:

The research assistant will participate in tasks to:

- Leverage linguistic diversity to interrogate LLM performance in reasoning tasks
- Analyze cross-linguistic behavioral and descriptive data using state-of-the-art computational and statistical tools

-Investigate the impact that large and influential languages have on language-related science, technology, medicine and education.

-Statistically scrutinize large databases on language-based resources across fields and develop practical models to inform evidence-based policies geared towards extending the utility of language-based resources to the largest number of languages as possible.

The duration is 12 months. Approximately 4 months Branco Weiss fellowship and 8 months Schmidt Science Polymath Program

L'assistent de recerca participarà en tasques per:

- Aprofitar la diversitat lingüística per interrogar el rendiment del LLM en tasques de raonament
- Analitzar dades descriptives i de comportament interlingüístiques mitjançant eines computacionals i estadístiques d'última generació




- Investigar l'impacte que les llengües grans i influents tenen en la ciència, la tecnologia, la medicina i l'educació relacionades amb les llengües.
- Examinar estadísticament grans bases de dades sobre recursos basats en llengües en diversos camps i desenvolupar models pràctics per fonamentar polítiques basades en l'evidència orientades a estendre la utilitat dels recursos basats en llengües al major nombre possible de llengües.

La durada és de 12 mesos. Aproximadament 4 mesos de beca Branco Weiss i 8 mesos del Programa Schmidt Science Polymath

- Degree in engineering, cognitive science, psychology, or similar demonstrable training./ - Llicenciatura en enginyeria, ciències cognitives, psicologia o formació demostrable similar.
- Altra formació i experiència professional, adequació al perfil proposat/ Other professional training and experience, adequacy to the proposed profile (0-40 punts/ points):

-Previous experience in a cognitive science lab.

-Previous experience in the area of psycholinguistics.

-Previous experience in the area of linguistic typology.

-Previous experience in designing and conducting psycholinguistic experiments and in analyzing, visualizing experimental data

-Experiència prèvia en un laboratori de ciències cognitives.

- Experiència prèvia en l'àrea de la psicolingüística.
- Experiència prèvia en l'àrea de la tipologia lingüística.
