KPMG in Caricom is seeking to hire talented, highly motivated In-house Counsel who can deliver tax advisory services to a diverse range of clients in several different sectors and countries and support the preparation of transfer pricing documentation studies reports.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Prepares or drafts correspondence to clients, and to the tax authorities in response to tax notices served on clients.
- Prepares or drafts complete, well-reasoned and reader-friendly technical tax analyses or tax advisories for approval by the Tax Partner, and subsequent​issue​to clients.
- Researches tax and other relevant laws to inform compliance and advisory exercises, and to build understanding of domestic and international tax concepts. Undertakes relevant study to develop or increase that knowledge.
- Acts as a first point of contact for clients, and competently liaises with clients on assigned matters.




- Keeps abreast of client issues with a view to improving our service or identifying other service opportunities by contacting clients regularly regarding work matters or following up on outstanding invoices.
- Consults with the revenue authorities to address issues such as tax assessments, appeals and interpretations of tax laws and regulations.
- Builds a strong relationship with key taxing authority representatives to facilitate the resolution of client tax matters.​
- Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest developments in taxation, transfer pricing, law and in other areas relevant to the role.



QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

- Bachelor of Laws Degree and a graduate of the Norman Manley Law School or the Hugh Wooding Law School or a graduate of Law School in another Commonwealth territory, with a minimum of three years’ post-qualification experience; OR
- Bachelor of Laws Degree and Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Accounting / Business, with a minimum of three years’ post-qualification experience.
- Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that is above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.​
- Experience in Trinidad, Guyana or other Caribbean taxation, or at Inland Revenue Division (IRD) or at a Taxation Services practice is a distinct advantage.



KEY SKILLS:





- Knowledge of the principles and procedures of legal research.
- Introductory knowledge of current and developing tax, transfer pricing and legal issues and trends would be an asset.
- Introductory knowledge of the full range of applicable domestic and international laws, regulations and guidelines which impact on and inform transfer pricing rules would be an asset.
- Ability to analyse and interpret issues and to prepare simple domestic and international tax opinions.
- Ability to demonstrate diligence, meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members.
- Ability to communicate in a clear, articulate, and audible manner.
- Ability to deal confidently with challenges by responding with a rationale to support positions.
- Ability to communicate and interact with multiple stakeholders in multiple jurisdictions.
- Strong computer skills, with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
- Strong written, verbal communication and interpersonal relationship skills.
- Initiative, and strong organisational skills.
- Good time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure in meeting tight deadlines.​
- Good analytical skills and strong attention to detail.
