We are part of Rakuten Group, one of the world's leading internet services companies. We are looking for a Junior AI Engineer to join our AI team and work directly with our AI Lead. You will contribute to the design, development, and deployment of AI-powered solutions across content discovery, personalization, and operational workflows. This role is AI-first: you're expected to use AI tools in your daily work to speed up delivery while maintaining engineering rigor, traceability, and quality. Responsibilities Partner with the AI Lead to identify high-impact technical problems, translate them into concrete AI solutions and deliver them. AI Engineering: Build end-to-end AI workflows: data model/agent logic evaluation deployable prototype.Apply engineering best practices with rigor: reason about model behavior/limitations, design evaluation pipelines (golden datasets, regression tests,



human-in-the-loop review).Integrate prototypes into real systems via APIs and services, ensuring observability (latency, cost, quality).Communication: Produce clear demos and documentation; communicate results, tradeoffs, and risks to both technical and non-technical stakeholders .Requirements 1–3 years of experience building products end-to-end, from architecting solutions to deploying production-grade software; internships directly related to the role are also considered valuable.Hands-on experience with LLMs or AI agents.Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python is a plus), knowledge of Git and collaborative development practices, and familiarity with Docker and/or container technologies.Experience with cloud-based AI platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and AI services from providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, and similar).
