Position Summary
The Department of Sociology seeks qualified faculty to teach undergraduate courses, including:

SOC 1: Introduction to Sociology

SOC 3: Critical Thinking about Society

SOC 111: Race & Ethnicity

SOC 125: Social Science Statistics

SOC 130W: Contemporary Social Issues (Writing Course)

Other courses as needed to fulfill the department’s educational goals.

Instructor Responsibilities
Temporary faculty members must adhere to and implement university and system-wide policies as directed per Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph 2. Responsibilities include preparing, delivering, conducting, proctoring, and grading lectures; holding office hours; designing homework, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester in the mode assigned (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid).

Compensation
Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience within the CSU salary range for Academic Year Lecturers (Class Code 2358).



The salary range for a temporary faculty member with a Master’s degree is $5,507–6,677 per month for full‑time load (15 WTUs). Starting salaries are typically at or near the minimum of the range and are adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per term.

Required Qualifications

A Master’s degree in Sociology or a related field from an accredited institution.

Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in Sociology or a related field.

Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, as evidenced by previous teaching experience, evaluations, or other evidence.

Successful undergraduate teaching experience.
