Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer Freelance

At Hays, we are collaborating with a leading global pharmaceutical company operating in more than 130 countries focused on improving the health and quality of life of both people and animals through innovation, research, and technology.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer with experience in developing analytical tables in the Snowflake and developing/configure data visualizations on Tableau/Power BI. The idóneo candidate will adapt at working across different environments (development, testing, and production) and be proficient in Jira, GitHub, Tableau, Power BI, and documentation. Experience with cloud solutions, specifically AWS, is also required. The BI Engineer will play a critical role in transforming data into actionable insights, ensuring data integrity, and supporting business decision-making processes.

Key Responsibilities

Data Warehouse Development

- Design, develop, test and maintain analytical tables in the Snowflake.
- Optimize data storage and retrieval processes to ensure efficient query performance.
- Implement data modeling techniques to support business requirements and reporting needs.

Environment Management:

- Manage and deploy data solutions across development, Quality Assurance, and production environments.
- Ensure smooth transitions between environments, minimizing disruptions to data access and reporting.
- Perform thorough testing and validation of data solutions in various environments to ensure accuracy and reliability.

Cloud Solutions

- Knowledge of AWS services for data storage, processing, and analytics.




- Implement and manage ETL processes in the cloud environment.
- Ensure data security and compliance within the AWS framework.

Collaboration and Project Management

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders, to understand data needs and deliver solutions.
- Use Jira to track and manage project tasks, issues, and progress.
- Maintain version control and manage code repositories using GitHub.

Reporting and Visualization

- Develop, test, document and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using Tableau/ Power BI.
- Optimize data consumption and data transformations in FE to ensure efficient data visualization performance.
- Translate complex data sets into clear and actionable visual insights.
- Provide ad-hoc data analysis and reporting support to various business units.

Documentation and Data Governance

- Document data definitions, models, processes, and workflows for reference and training purposes.
- Implement and enforce data governance policies to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security.
- Conduct regular data quality checks and troubleshoot any data-related issues.

Requirements

- Proven experience with Snowflake, including schema design, SQL development, and performance optimization.




- Proficiency in SQL and experience with ETL processes and tools.
- Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts and best practices.
- Experience with AWS cloud solutions, including S3, Redshift, Lambda, and other relevant services.
- Experience with DBT, elementary and the complete modern standard for data transformation.
- Experience with Jira for project management and issue tracking.
- Proficiency in using GitHub, Bitbucket for version control and collaboration.
- Advanced skills in Tableau for data visualization and reporting.
- Ability to analyze complex data sets and derive meaningful insights.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across different teams and departments.
- Professional level of English.

Nice to Have

- Experience with other BI tools and platforms (e.g., Power BI, Looker).
- Knowledge of Python or other scripting languages for data manipulation and automation.
- Relevant certifications in Snowflake, AWS, Tableau, or other BI tools
