Infrastructure Development Manager - Madrid An established infrastructure and real estate operator within the data center sector is seeking a Power Infrastructure Business Development Manager to support the identification, assessment, and acquisition of electrical capacity for new and existing data center developments across Spain.
This role sits at the intersection of energy infrastructure, grid connectivity, and business development, with a strong technical focus on electrical networks and power availability. You will play a key role in identifying viable grid connection opportunities, analysing available capacity, and supporting strategic decisions around where and how future data center sites can be developed.
The position is highly analytical and commercially oriented, combining technical understanding of electrical infrastructure with market intelligence and opportunity identification. Responsibilities
- Analyse grid capacity maps and infrastructure data from utility companies to identify viable connection opportunities for data center development
- Collect, download, and interpret technical datasets (Excel files, GIS maps, grid reports, and utility planning documents) from distribution and transmission operators
- Track and analyse historical and evolving grid capacity trends to anticipate future connection opportunities and constraints
- Identify and evaluate new business opportunities linked to energy availability and infrastructure expansion for data center sites
- Support the preparation and submission of applications for grid access and connection requests to transmission and distribution system operators
- Participate in competitive processes and tenders for securing electrical capacity and grid access rights
- Work closely with internal development, engineering, and strategy teams to align grid availability with future data center pipeline requirements
- Liaise with external stakeholders including utilities, grid operators, and energy infrastructure providers
- Support technical and commercial evaluation of connection costs, feasibility, and lead times for new infrastructure connections
- Contribute to data-driven tools and automation (e.g. Python or similar) to improve analysis of grid and capacity
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of electrical infrastructure, grid systems, and energy transmission/distribution networks
- Ability to interpret technical energy and utility data, including capacity maps, connection queues, and infrastructure constraints
- Strong analytical mindset with experience working with large datasets (Excel, GIS, or similar tools)
- Understanding of grid connection processes, access rights, and energy infrastructure contracting is highly desirable
- Strong communication and negotiation skills in a technical environment
- Proactive, results-driven approach with strong commercial awareness
- Ability to work cross-functionally with technical and business teams
- Familiarity with Python or R for data analysis or automation is an advantage
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline
- Approximately 2+ years of experience in energy infrastructure, grid operations, utilities, consulting, or electrical engineering roles
- Strong understanding of electrical networks, grid capacity, or energy systems
- Exposure to data analysis, infrastructure planning, or energy market environments is highly beneficial
- Experience working with utilities, TSOs/DSOs, or infrastructure developers is a plus
- Fluent Spanish & English
