As a Systems Engineer in Novanta Ru0026amp;A, you will shape safe, high-performance motion control for demanding industrial and medical applications. You’ll focus on functional safety, translating customer needs into system-level requirements, architectures, and verification plans across hardware, firmware, software, and mechanical domains. You’ll develop safety concepts and contribute to safety analyses and certifications, working with a cross-functional team using advanced power electronics. This role offers impact in a fast-moving, innovative environment with a strong emphasis on reliability and safety.

• Develop and maintain system requirements, architecture, and functional decompositions
• Maintain requirements traceability across the product lifecycle
• Collaborate with hardware, firmware, software, mechanical, quality, and product teams
• Evaluate trade-offs and propose robust technical solutions
• Define and maintain functional safety requirements and safety architectures
• Develop diagnostic concepts and support safety analyses (FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, DFA)
• Perform safety-related calculations (PFH, MTTFd, DC, SFF)




• Ensure alignment with IEC 61508 and ISO 13849 and regulatory requirements
• Support third-party safety assessments and certification activities
• Develop safety case documentation and customer-facing guidance
• Define engineering procedures for functional safety software development and testing
• Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and practices

Responsabilidades
• MSc in Electrical Engineering or related field; PhD not required
• 2+ years in systems engineering, embedded systems, functional safety, or related product development
• Experience with Requirements Management tools
• Functional safety experience at application or end-product level, preferably in robotics or automation
• Knowledge of IEC 61508 and ISO 13849
• Experience with FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, DFA
• System-level safety calculations knowledge (PFH, MTTFd, DC, SFF)
• Background in electronic design with embedded hardware/software
• Full professional English proficiency
• TÜV Functional Safety Engineer certification preferred
