Role Description The Roughneck is a full-time, on-site role based in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, working on offshore drilling operations. This position supports the drilling crew by handling drill pipe, casing, and other equipment on the rig floor, assisting in the operation and maintenance of drilling tools and machinery. Daily tasks include cleaning and preparing the work area, maintaining equipment, following instructions from the driller and other supervisors, and adhering to safety procedures and environmental standards.
The Roughneck also participates in routine inspections, safety drills, and basic troubleshooting, helping to ensure efficient and safe drilling operations in demanding offshore conditions.
Collaboration with other crew members and clear communication are essential to performing this role effectively.
Qualifications
- Strong foundational skills in drilling operations, including handling drill pipe and tools, supporting rig floor activities, and following drilling procedures.
- Relevant offshore safety certifications such as BOSIET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training), with demonstrated ability to follow safety and emergency response protocols.
- Knowledge and practical awareness of H2S safety, including recognizing hazards and using appropriate protective equipment and procedures.
- Experience working in offshore oil environments, with an understanding of offshore rig operations, work routines, and safety culture.
- Background in the oil & gas industry or related heavy industrial sectors, preferably in offshore drilling or rig maintenance.
- Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including lifting heavy equipment, working at heights, and performing tasks in variable weather.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and situational awareness skills, with the ability to follow instructions and adapt to changing operational needs.
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in mechanical, industrial, or maritime disciplines is an advantage.
- Willingness to work rotational shifts offshore and comply with all company safety, environmental, and operational standards.
