IRB Barcelona is looking for a Scientific Computing Officer to join its Scientific Computing team.
The successful candidate will help researchers make effective use of the institute’s computing and data infrastructure. The role will combine user support, scientific workflow analysis, software deployment, documentation and collaboration with research groups.
We are looking for someone with a strong interest in scientific computing and a willingness to learn. Previous experience in High-Performance Computing is welcome, but it is not required. The position is suitable for candidates who have a basic technical background and want to develop their career at the intersection of research, computing and data.
KEY RESPONSABILITIES
Support researchers in running scientific applications and computational workflows.
Understand research data flows, from data generation and ingestion to processing, analysis, storage and archiving.
Help users identify the most appropriate computing and storage resources for their work.
Assist with the installation,



configuration and maintenance of scientific software.
Support jobs running on Linux servers and HPC environments.
Help researchers improve the reproducibility, portability and efficiency of their workflows.
Prepare user documentation, examples and training materials.
Participate in training sessions, onboarding activities and direct support for research groups.
Collaborate with researchers, IT specialists and other Scientific Computing team members.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of the institute’s scientific computing services.
YOU HAVE
We do not expect candidates to already be experts in all aspects of scientific computing. The essential requirements are:
Basic programming or scripting skills in at least one language, such as Python, Bash, R, C, C++ or a similar language.
Basic knowledge of Linux and the command line.
Ability to understand the main stages of a scientific or data-processing workflow.
