Background
An opportunity for a software engineer to work for Telespazio Iberica, on-site at ESA-ESAC (Spain) providing support to ESA’s Astronomy missions. This post can be made available as a part time role.

Responsibilities / Duties
The engineer will work on the ESA site to support the development of new software and maintenance tasks for space missions. We are looking for an adaptable engineer with Java and database experience, and some AI experience is desirable.

We are looking for some or all of the skills listed below.

Qualifications / Experience
Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required
- Masters degree in software engineering, or equivalent;
- Interest in software engineering applied to space.

Essential Skills
Specific knowledge is required in the following areas:
- Database management: Oracle, Postgres or similar
- Backend: Java, hibernate, spring-boot
- Docker or Podman
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional and cross-directorate teams
- Strong problem-solving skills




- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken
- High standard of document drafting
- Ability to work effectively both within a small team and in an autonomous way.

Desirable Skills
- Other software skills such as scripting, python, linux knowledge)
- Experience in kubernetes environments as developer
- Knowledge of programming using LLMs
- Interface of Agents to AI software

Qualities
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Pro-active attitude to problem solving and customer focus
- Comfortable in an international working environment
- Should be willing to travel to ESA establishments and/or other European locations

Candidates must be eligible for security clearance from their national security administration and be eligible for relevant export control authorisation.
