Freelance Lead / Chief Accountant – Wallonia, Belgium

We are supporting an established international business in Wallonia that is looking for an experienced Lead / Chief Accountant to join its finance team on a freelance basis.

This is an interim assignment providing additional senior-level accounting support to the business.

The role will initially require 3 days per week on-site, with the possibility of reducing to 2 days per week following an introductory period.

Responsibilities

- Take ownership of month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing activities.
- Ensure accounting deadlines, accuracy and quality standards are consistently met.
- Lead and support a small accounting team.
- Oversee day-to-day General Ledger activities and resolve accounting issues independently.




- Work closely with finance and wider business stakeholders.

Requirements

- Strong General Ledger and financial accounting experience.
- Experience leading or supervising an accounting team.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 is essential.
- Able to work independently, take ownership, and proactively identify and resolve issues.
- French is the preferred working language.

Location: Wallonia, Belgium

Contract: Freelance / Interim

Working model: Hybrid – 3 days on-site initially, potentially reducing to 2 days
