Responsibilities

- Work on large‑scale, distributed systems to drive Hive innovation and build additional components.
- Create products addressing complex SQL query workloads on public or private clouds within the Cloudera Data Platform (CDP).
- Design and develop features for parallel and distributed query engines, advancing innovation in CDP.
- Focus on query optimization, performance, and scalability of SQL queries.
- Write design documentation for key features and capabilities.
- Improve code quality through tests, automation, and code reviews.
- Understand customers’ workloads and deliver effective technical solutions.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent, with 6+ years of experience.
- Experience with query optimization tools such as Apache Calcite.
- Strong coding discipline, attention to detail, and quality focus.
- Proficiency in data structures and algorithms; programming in Java is desired.
- Solid understanding of database internals, query processing and SQL query optimization.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate on cross‑functional projects.

Preferred Background

- Contributions to open‑source Apache projects (Hive, Impala, Calcite) or other RDBMS.
- Experience with the Hadoop ecosystem and file formats such as Parquet and ORC.
- Familiarity with public cloud infrastructures (Azure, AWS, GCP).
- Recognized contributions to open‑source initiatives.
