Mid Sussex District Council is offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Finance and Accounting Team as a Finance Apprentice . This role provides hands-on experience across a wide range of finance activities while studying towards a Level 3 Finance Apprenticeship.
You'll work alongside experienced finance professionals who will support and develop your skills, giving you valuable insight into the world of local government finance and helping you build a strong foundation for your future career.
About the Role
As a Finance Apprentice, you'll play an important part in supporting the day-to-day operation of our Finance Service. This is a varied role that combines administrative, transactional and accounting responsibilities, providing exposure to many different areas of finance.
You will gain experience in:
- Raising purchase orders and supporting purchase ledger activities
- Processing journals and financial transactions
- Bank reconciliations
- Supporting VAT returns




- Maintaining reserve and suspense accounts
- Assisting with recharges and property trading accounts
- Reconciling data between financial systems
- Setting up financial accounts for projects and new staff
- Supporting finance-related projects and service improvements
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the Council
