It combines BSC's expertise in high-performance computing (HPC)
with cutting-edge AI to address major scientific and societal challenges.This position is part of our research line on Artificial Intelligence and Language Models for Science. The successful candidate will contribute to the European project EVELYN, which focuses on the development of Multimodal Foundation Models for environmental pollution sciences. The project aims to leverage large-scale heterogeneous data from multiple modalities to advance scientific understanding, prediction, and decision-making in environmental pollution. The candidate will work within a highly advanced HPC environment, gain access to state-of-the-art systems and computational infrastructure, and collaborate with experts across multiple disciplines at both local and international levels.Key DutiesParticipation in EVELYN with tasks including but not limited to research, documentation and deliverablesDesign, develop and train multimodal LLMsProcess multimodal dataPreparation and presentation of scientific articlesSupervision junior research engineersParticipation in internal group meetings and other scientific discussionsPreparation and writing of new scientific projectsRequirementsEducationA PhD or master degree in Computer Science, Computational linguistics, Physics, Mathematics or relatedEssential Knowledge and Professional ExperienceDemonstrated experience of at least 4 years in machine learningDemonstrated experience of at least 4 years in deep learning frameworksDemonstrated experience of at least 2 year in LLMsTechnical skills: Linux, Python, Deep learning libraries, git,
