The Principal Scientist plays a pivotal role in advancing scientific research and guiding project execution. In addition to managing complex experiments and contributing to research strategy, he/she provides mentorship to Scientists and Laboratory Technicians, sharing expertise and supporting their development. His/her deep scientific knowledge and experience in CNS AAV gene therapy contribute to innovation, project continuity, and high-quality results. He/she fosters collaboration, promotes best practices, and helps create a positive, focused research environment.
This position is a fixed-term role to provide maternity leave cover, ensuring continuity of scientific leadership, project delivery, and team support during the temporary absence of the substantive post holder.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Experimental Design and Execution
Designing and executing complex laboratory in vitro and in vivo experiments, following established protocols and procedures. Your expertise will contribute to the development of research methodologies, ensuring the highest standards of scientific rigor and accuracy
Design and implement novel laboratory protocols
Taking responsibility for the successful planning, execution, and completion of research projects. You will coordinate efforts across interdisciplinary teams, set project milestones, and manage resources effectively to ensure timely delivery
Data Analysis, Conclusion, and Reportin g
Applying advanced statistical analysis methods and data visualization techniques to analyse and interpret experimental data
Drawing meaningful conclusions and communicating research findings effectively to internal and external stakeholders
Provide critical insights for the VP and Director of the department
Author high-impact reports, publications
Participate in project meetings and represent the CNS team when required
Collaboration and Project Support
Act as the scientific liaison between the VP-Pre Clinical and the laboratory team during the maternity&paternitity; leave
Provide day-to-day scientific guidance to Scientists and Technicians in the CNS team
Ensure continuity of CNS pre-clinical activities and project execution
Support experimental planning, data review, troubleshooting, and decision-makingPlay a key role in shaping the overall scientific strategy with the collaboration of others scientist, principal scientist and managers/directors
Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including academic researchers, industry partners, and regulatory bodies
Building and maintaining collaborative relationships to foster knowledge exchange, access additional expertise, and drive research collaborations
Monitor project timelines, identify risks, and help achieving milestones
Staying update with the latest scientific advancements and technological innovations in the field
Lead scientific sessions and workshops
Training and Supervision
Lead the training and development of technicians
Mentor and guide junior and senior scientists
QUALIFICATIONS
PhD or relevant experience in a scientific discipline, preferred in Neuroscience, Gene Therapy, Molecular Biology, Virology, or a related field
Minimum 5 years of experience in relevant biotech/pharmaceutical industry roles with extensive experience in CNS gene therapy
In addition to familiarity in CNS research, a strong background in AAV-based gene therapy (AAV vector biology, functional assays, or related areas)

Proven experience leading or coordinating multidisciplinary pre-clinical projects
Highly proficient in analyzing complex data independently, applying advanced techniques, and identifying patterns or insights
Excellent at managing multiple tasks and deadlines, demonstrating efficiency and prioritization and cross-functional interactions

Strong communication skills and ability to interact with internal stakeholders and external collaborators
Strong ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining a well-organized environment
Excellent scientific judgment and strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to address complex scientific challenges and propose innovative solutions
Strong ability to work effectively within a team, fostering collaboration and mentoring junior staff
Flexibility in adjusting to changing tasks, priorities, and research needs in a dynamic environment
Strong adaptability to fast-paced environment, matrix organizations
Comfortable making scientific decisions independently while maintaining alignment with project objectives.
