Lead AI Engineer | Python | LLMs | Agentic AI | Hybrid (Barcelona)

Velocity Tech has partnered with an innovative, venture‑backed AI startup that is transforming a highly regulated industry through the application of cutting‑edge artificial intelligence.

We’re looking for a Lead AI Engineer to take ownership of the company’s AI strategy while remaining hands‑on in the design, development, and deployment of production‑grade AI systems. This is an opportunity to join a small, high‑calibre engineering team where you’ll have a direct influence on both the technical direction and future of the product.

What You’ll Be Doing

- Lead the design and development of production‑ready AI systems built around LLMs and agentic workflows.
- Build intelligent multi‑step agent frameworks capable of solving complex business problems.
- Design robust evaluation, testing and feedback loops to continually improve AI performance.
- Develop reliable, scalable AI applications with a focus on observability, latency, cost optimisation and system resilience.
- Work closely with founders and senior leadership to define the company’s AI strategy and technical roadmap.
- Transform complex real‑world processes into reliable, auditable AI‑driven solutions.
- Research, evaluate and implement the latest advancements across AI and machine learning technologies.





What We’re Looking For

- Strong commercial experience building backend applications in Python .
- Hands‑on experience building agentic AI systems , multi‑agent workflows or orchestration frameworks.
- Experience working with modern AI frameworks such as LangGraph or similar.
- Good understanding of model evaluation, observability and AI system reliability.
- Solid machine learning and NLP fundamentals.
- Experience influencing technical direction and making architectural decisions around AI products.
- Startup or scale‑up experience is highly desirable.
