Systems Development Engineer II, Kuiper Devices and Systems - Infrastructure
Job ID: | Amazon Kuiper Manufacturing Enterprises LLC
Amazon Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities across the world, and we’ve designed the system with the capacity, flexibility, and performance to serve a wide range of customers, from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.
Export Control: This position requires that the selected candidate be a U.S. Citizen in order to comply with U.S. government-imposed requirements related to the nature of the work and/or where it will be performed.
Systems Development Engineer role focuses on supporting essential Leo shared software services and infrastructure across multiple business functions such as mechanical, printed circuit board, ASIC, and wiring. These functions require managing software services, lab environments, infrastructure both on‑premise (including hyper‑converged) and in AWS, and data all in support of satellite research and development. You’ll design environments and manage both their physical and cloud infrastructure, which includes operating system administration across Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Windows, used by the business critical design functions.
Hands‑on management of server deployments, system maintenance, and infrastructure improvements is required while ensuring consistent uptime for engineering teams. Working directly with stakeholders, you’ll gather requirements, plan improvements, and implement changes through formal change control processes.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Server Administration – Customizing, deploying, and administering Linux and/or Windows physical and virtualized servers in hybrid environments.
- Cloud Engineering – Designing, deploying, and maintaining services and their environments on one or more major cloud service providers (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Network Administration – Deploying and managing networking resources in support of both cloud and on‑premise infrastructure.
- Service Operations – Ensuring required service levels are maintained to customer specification via service and infrastructure instrumentation, monitoring, and reporting; establishing and following support, change, and disaster recovery processes.
- Solution Design – Working with internal partners and engineering peers on requirements and designing a respective solution in a disciplined and collaborative approach.
- Continuous Improvement – Evaluating current services and their implementation in cooperation with partners and peers to make improvements.
- Automation and Documentation – Creating and maintaining automation for routine and deterministic workflows and authoring high‑quality documentation for all stages of a service’s life cycle.
A Day in the Life
Kuiper Devices & Systems – Infrastructure is looking for experienced and dedicated team members to manage the administration, maintenance, and development of services and environments for various Amazon Leo design and manufacturing functions (e.g., Integrated Circuits, Mechanical Parts, Printed Circuit Board, Machining) and ServiceNow. The ideal candidate is innovative, has strong problem‑solving skills, and takes pride in service quality. You must be comfortable working with internal partners cross‑functionally and approach activities with automation in mind, reserving manual execution to when automation is not an option.
