Diesel Mechanic

Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic with Generator experience to join their power generation team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, servicing, repair, and fault diagnosis of diesel generators and associated equipment. This is a hands-on role requiring strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, both in the workshop and at customer sites.

Key Responsibilities

- Carry out routine servicing and preventative maintenance on diesel generators.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, fuel, and cooling system faults.
- Perform engine repairs, component replacements, and overhauls as required.
- Conduct inspections, testing, and commissioning of generator systems.
- Respond to breakdown callouts and provide on-site technical support.
- Complete service reports and maintain accurate maintenance records.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety regulations.
- Liaise with customers and provide professional technical support when required.

Requirements

- Qualified Diesel Mechanic, Plant Fitter, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, or similar trade qualification.
- Minimum 3 years' experience working on diesel engines, generators,



or heavy equipment.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic abilities.
- Experience reading technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Ability to work independently and manage service calls effectively.
- Full clean driving licence.

Desirable Experience

- Experience with generator brands such as Cummins, Perkins, Caterpillar, MTU, Volvo Penta, or Liebherr.
- Knowledge of generator control systems and power generation equipment.
- Experience in field service and emergency breakdown response.
