About the role

Scopely is on the lookout for a Director, Senior Employment Counsel to oversee global employment law and compliance matters. This hybrid position is based in Barcelona and requires collaboration with various internal teams, such as People and Legal, to ensure compliance with employment regulations while minimizing risks across multiple regions. The role involves providing strategic and practical legal guidance on a wide range of employment-related issues.

What you'll do

- Provide expert legal counsel on employment law matters across diverse international regions, particularly focusing on Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, including countries like Spain, India, the UK, Ireland, Israel, Portugal, Switzerland, Turkey, and Germany.
- Serve as a reliable advisor to the People Team and business leaders on employee relations, risk management, and intricate workplace challenges.
- Collaborate with the Talent and Compensation teams to draft and review employment-related documents, ensuring they meet legal standards and organizational needs.
- Manage employment litigation and dispute resolution processes within your designated regions, coordinating with external legal counsel when necessary.
- Offer timely, practical, and business-oriented legal advice that aligns with the company's objectives across various jurisdictions.
- Develop and revise region-specific policies, employee handbooks, contracts, and operational procedures to ensure compliance with local laws.
- Provide strategic advice on workforce planning,



organizational structure, restructuring initiatives, and mergers and acquisitions activities.
- Counsel on matters related to works councils, unions, and collective bargaining agreements in the supported regions.
- Stay informed about regional legal developments and proactively adjust company policies and practices to ensure ongoing compliance with changing regulations.

Requirements

- Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree and admission to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.
- A minimum of 14 years of progressively responsible experience in global employment law, with a strong emphasis on cross-border issues.
- Proven track record of successfully advising on complex employment matters within a general, matrixed organizational structure.
- Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders effectively.
- A strategic mindset paired with practical execution capabilities and a thorough understanding of risk management principles.
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to build resilient business partnerships.
- Fluency in English is essential, and professional proficiency in Spanish is required, with additional fluency being a plus.

Nice to have

- Previous in-house legal experience,



particularly in a corporate environment.
- Familiarity with mergers and acquisitions transactions and the legal implications involved.
- Experience in the technology or gaming sectors, providing insight into industry-specific employment issues.
- Proficiency in additional languages, enhancing communication with diverse teams and stakeholders.

- Strong understanding of employment law across multiple jurisdictions, particularly in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
- Proficiency in legal research tools and compliance management software.
- Excellent drafting skills for legal documents, policies, and contracts.
- Familiarity with HR systems and tools that support employment law compliance.
- Strong analytical skills to assess legal risks and develop effective strategies.
