Position The

Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) is seeking an outstanding and highly motivated manager to serve as Responsible of the Preclinical Imaging Platform (PIP).

The Preclinical Imaging

Platform (PIP) is one of the strategic research infrastructures of the Vall d'Hebron Campus. It is located within the shared Laboratory Animal Facility jointly operated by VHIO and the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) and is managed by VHIO under a shared governance model, whereby the strategic development of the Platform is jointly defined by both institutions. The Platform provides state-of-the-art preclinical imaging modalities and technological expertise to support translational biomedical research across the Campus.

Current imaging modalities include: Micro-Computed Tomography (Micro-CT)

High-Frequency Ultrasound

Optical Imaging (Bioluminescence and Fluorescence)

MicroPET/CT ans SPECT The successful candidate will lead the technical and operational management of the Platform, ensuring scientific excellence, service quality, technological innovation and sustainable development. In addition, the selected candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate on research projects related to the different disciplines covered in our Campus, providing his/ her expertise and supporting in the development of the projects, at the degree that is requested by the different research groups.



This position offers the opportunity to be in a strategic Core Facility within one of Europe's most collaborative biomedical research campuses.

Main Responsibilities

Lead technical and operational management of the Preclinical Imaging Platform.

Define technological roadmap of the Platform in coordination with VHIO and VHIR.

Ensure alignment of the Platform with the strategic priorities jointly established by both institutions.

Supervision and organization of the Radioactive Facility

Coordinate Platform personnel, workload and operational planning.

Ensure the delivery of high-quality imaging services to internal and external users.

Advise researchers on experimental design, imaging protocols and quantitative image analysis.

Develop, implement and continuously improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Back-up for image acquisition and analysis when needed

Develop and negotiate the equipment maintenance programs, technological upgrades and quality assurance.

Organize the image storage and transfer system with IT unit

Promote the Platform nationally and internationally.

Foster collaborations with academic institutions, hospitals, research infrastructures and industry.

Monitor activity indicators (KPIs), financial performance and sustainability.

Ensure compliance with institutional quality standards, biosafety regulations and applicable legislation.

Act as Imaging Advisor to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).

Contribute to institutional teaching and training activities.

Participate in competitive national and international research projects.

Required Education and Qualifications PhD in Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, Medicine, Biology or a related discipline.

Accreditation for Functions B, C and D according to Spanish legislation (RD 53/2013).

Excellent written and spoken English.

Desirable

Radioactive facility Supervisor License

Experience working in multidisciplinary scientific environments.

Experience and Knowledge Required Demonstrated expertise in preclinical imaging technologies

Experience working in Core Facilities or shared research infrastructures.

Experience in image acquisition, processing and quantitative analysis.

Experience designing and conducting imaging studies using laboratory animals.

Knowledge of imaging acquisition and analysis software.

Knowledge of laboratory animal welfare regulations.

Experience working under quality management systems.

Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.

Strong collaborative and service-oriented mindset.

Highly Valued

Expertise in molecular imaging (PET/CT and SPECT equipment) techniques

Experience in a Radioactive Facility

Previous experience leading Core Facilities or scientific infrastructures.

Experience managing multidisciplinary teams.

Experience obtaining competitive research funding.

Experience managing research infrastructure budgets.

Expertise in AI-based image analysis,



radiomics or computational imaging.
