Darwin Geospatial, a geospatial technology company building satellite data pipelines for research and environmental infrastructure projects, is looking for an intern to provide technical support under the direct supervision of the technical lead.
Location: Remote
Commitment: Part-time, with direct supervision
Duration: Adaptable, adapted to the student's academic schedule
Compensation: Low salary range (internship)
Level: Junior What you'll do:
- Implement and validate environmental indicators from formulas already defined in the scientific literature (vegetation/water/soil spectral indices, air quality, UV radiation, soil moisture, among others), checking that results make physical sense.
- Run and monitor cloud data processing pipelines (Google Cloud), following templates and processes already documented by the team.
- Document the status, results, and issues of each indicator.
- Support occasional geospatial data quality control tasks. No prior experience with cloud infrastructure or software development is required:
the workflow (how to launch and follow a pipeline) is already defined and documented; you learn on the job with supervision. Profile we're looking for:
- Student of Physics, Mathematics, or a related field with a strong quantitative component.
- Basic programming knowledge (ideally Python), comfortable solving problems with code.
- Analytical rigor: able to question whether a result is correct or an artifact.
- Willingness to learn remote sensing/GIS tools (not required to have them already). Nice to have:
- Google Cloud Certifications are highly valued.
- Applied statistics or signal/data processing knowledge.
- Experience (even academic) with scientific Python (numpy, pandas) or geospatial libraries (geopandas, rasterio).
- Interest in environmental science and remote sensing.
Selection process: 2-3 weeks from posting. Initial interview → technical exam → final interview.
