TheSmart Nano‑Bio‑Devices Group is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to lead a project on the design and application of enzyme‑powered nanomotors for the treatment of osteoarthritis and joint‑related diseases.
Responsibilities
-
- Project Leadership & Design: Drive the experimental design, optimisation, and advanced surface functionalisation of organic‑based nanoparticles to serve as active, targeted therapeutic carriers.
- Advanced Biophysical Characterisation: Investigate enzyme‑powered motion dynamics of the nanobots and develop methods to quantify their ability to penetrate and actively modify highly viscous biological environments such as synovial fluid.
- Pre‑clinical Evaluation: Design and oversee advanced in‑vitro and in‑vivo biological assays to critically evaluate nanobot internalisation pathways, dynamic tissue distribution and therapeutic efficacy in joint‑disease models.
- Technology Translation: Translate the nanomotor platform from pre‑clinical research toward clinical application.
- Data Analysis & Scientific Output: Analyse complex datasets independently, prepare high‑impact scientific publications and present findings at international conferences.
- Mentorship & Project Management: Supervise and mentor PhD and M.Sc. students within the research group, oversee project milestones and prepare technical reports.
Qualifications
-
- Degree, Master’s and PhD in chemistry,
materials science, biology, nanotechnology, biomedical engineering or a closely related field.
- Proven post‑doctoral or doctoral research experience in designing, synthesising and characterising nanoparticles and drug delivery systems, with specific expertise in enzyme catalysis and nanomotors highly desired.
- Experience in in‑vitro drug‑delivery models and in‑vitro assays related to nanomedicine.
- Strong track record of scientific publications as first author in peer‑reviewed, high‑impact journals.
- Ability to work independently, manage complex projects, mentor junior researchers, and possess excellent scientific writing and presentation skills.
- High level of English proficiency.
- Advantageous: experience in nanomedicine, active matter, biomaterials or 3D cell‑culture models; experience with in‑vivo imaging.
- Core competencies: communication, teamwork, collaboration, commitment, proactivity, integrity, critical and analytical thinking.
Benefits
-
- Number of available positions: 1
- Starting date: September–October 2026
- Contract: Full time, 1‑year
