The Barcelona Supercomputing Center – Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC‑CNS) is a leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and hosts EuroHPC JU. The mission is to research, develop and manage information technologies to facilitate scientific progress.
Context and Mission
The AI Factory is developing a growing portfolio of AI services that depend on high‑quality, trusted, and well‑governed data. We are looking for an AI Engineer – AI Data Platforms Engineering who will bridge AI engineering and data engineering disciplines, building and maintaining data foundations that enable AI applications. The mission is to transform data into a strategic asset for AI delivery by creating scalable data architectures, improving data quality, and enabling trustworthy AI systems.
Key Duties
-
- Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines supporting AI and analytics use cases.
- Prepare, transform, and structure data for AI model consumption and retrieval systems.
- Build and maintain knowledge bases, semantic indexes, and embedding pipelines.
- Implement data quality controls, validation processes, and monitoring mechanisms.
- Define data models, schemas, metadata standards, and governance practices.
- Support secure and compliant data access, handling sensitive and regulated information appropriately.
- Collaborate with AI engineers, researchers, and platform teams to deliver AI‑ready datasets and services.
- Develop data‑driven applications, analytics capabilities, and evaluation datasets for AI systems.
- Produce technical documentation related to data architecture, lineage, and operational processes.
- Contribute to data engineering standards, reusable components, and best practices.
Requirements

- Education
-
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, or a related technical discipline.
- Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
-
- 3–5 years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, analytics engineering, or related roles.
- Strong experience with Python, SQL, and modern data processing frameworks.
- Experience designing and operating ETL/ELT pipelines and data orchestration workflows.
- Experience working with data lakes, data warehouses, lakehouses, or large‑scale analytical platforms.
- Knowledge of data modeling, metadata management, data quality, governance, and lineage concepts.
- Experience supporting AI and machine learning use cases through data preparation and engineering.
- Understanding of embeddings, vector databases, semantic search, and retrieval systems.
- Experience with cloud‑based data platforms and services.
- Experience with Git, CI/CD, testing, and modern software delivery practices.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience

- Experience supporting Generative AI, RAG, or knowledge‑based AI systems.
- Familiarity with MLOps, LLMOps, or AI evaluation frameworks.
- Experience in research, scientific computing, HPC, or innovation environments.
- Experience with data governance and compliance frameworks.

Conditions

- The position will be located at BSC within the Directors Department.
- Full‑time contract (35h/week) with versátil working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, and support for relocation procedures.
- Open‑ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration.
- Holiday entitlement: 22 days + 6 personal days + 24th and 31st of December per collective agreement.
- Salary: competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, adjusted for cost of living in Barcelona. xqbhyrx
