We're looking for a General Manager to join us in Barcelona to lead a truly landmark project: creating a Free-to-Play version of the world-famous Football Manager franchise. You'll be the ultimate strategic lead, overseeing the game's vision, financial success, and entire development lifecycle. This is a Tier 1 project with extremely high ambition, and you’ll have full profit and loss ownership. You'll play a central role in assembling a bespoke internal team and cultivating a supportive, high-performance culture. This is a unique opportunity to build out exactly what Football Manager looks like as a Free-to-Play game, delivering massive financial results and significantly elevating our portfolio.
You will have impact and fun at work by:
Steer the multi-year game strategy as the central executive partner, fostering trust and ensuring seamless product alignment across internal teams, Rovio central services, SEGA, and Sports Interactive.
Owning the full Profit & Loss for the game, managing large budgets, and designing a world-class commercial roadmap that helps us maximize revenue.
Assembling and nurturing the core Barcelona development team, cultivating a high-performance culture as you deliver a unique take on the iconic Football Manager brand.
Ensuring state-of-the-art Live Operations including fun events, promotions, and content updates that drive daily player engagement and set a quality benchmark for the industry.
Fostering a data-informed team culture, using player behavior insights and analytics to anticipate market shifts and guide all of our priorities.
Experience and skills we are looking for:
You are an expert at leading massive IP-based Free to Play projects from the earliest prototype stage all the way into highly profitable Live Operations, ensuring the brand guidelines are passionately protected.
You have a holistic understanding of the current mobile games business—from product strategy and design to user acquisition and commercial scaling—and use it to guide the big-picture development strategy.
You possess absolute mastery of the Free-to-Play mobile landscape, preferably in football manager or sports games.
You have a qualified, deep expertise in football and football management allowing you to genuinely connect with the domain.
You have a proven track record of leading diverse, general teams and excel at stakeholder management, building trust-based relationships and driving collaboration across organizations.
You demonstrate inspirational executive leadership with professional humility, encouraging ownership and maintaining project momentum with exceptional communication.
It would be nice if you also have the following skills:
- Deep executive experience with global contract negotiation
- Enterprise-level product and market understanding that goes far beyond standard production.
You'll work in a hybrid setup with two days at the office per week.
We welcome applicants to use the name they want to be addressed by in the application form, regardless of whether it is their legal name.
At Rovio, we are also committed to providing reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities or conditions in our working environment and job application procedures. We are committed to continuously improving workplace accessibility. If you have any questions before applying, please write to us at
