Expert Fraud Data Scientist (Freelance)

Freelance Contract - August 2026 – 31 December 2027
Our client is seeking an Expert Fraud Data Scientist for a long-term freelance contract with a leading banking organisation based in Brussels.
This opportunity is idóneo for a Senior Data Scientist with a background in Fraud Detection and a minimum of five years' experience developing AI applications. You will play a key role in designing and enhancing advanced fraud detection solutions, using AI and machine learning to identify emerging threats and help protect customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and optimise fraud detection models using machine learning, anomaly detection, graph analytics, and behavioural analytics.
- Transform large volumes of transactional and customer data into actionable fraud intelligence through feature engineering and pattern discovery.
- Investigate complex fraud schemes and develop proactive detection strategies.
- Collaborate with Fraud Operations, Risk, Compliance and Product teams to deliver scalable,
data-driven solutions.
Required Experience & Skills
- A minimum of five years' experience developing AI applications, with a strong background in fraud detection.
- Proven expertise in Python, SQL, Pandas, Spark/Hadoop, and large-scale data processing.
- Experience building and deploying machine learning models into production environments.
- Strong knowledge of supervised and unsupervised machine learning, anomaly detection, graph analytics, and feature engineering.
- A master’s degree in computer science, Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics, or another quantitative discipline (a PhD would be advantageous).
- Fluent English.
