About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Freelance Data Warehouse Architect to design, optimize, and modernize enterprise data warehouse (DWH) solutions for our clients. In this role, you will lead the architecture of scalable, high-performance DWHs that support analytics, reporting, and business intelligence. You will collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure the DWH aligns with organizational goals, data governance, and evolving technology trends.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and implement scalable, high-performance data warehouse architectures using Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, or Azure Synapse.
- Define data modeling strategies (e.g., Kimball, Inmon, Data Vault) to optimize query performance, storage, and flexibility.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical DWH solutions.
- Lead the migration from legacy systems to modern cloud-based DWH platforms.
- Optimize ETL/ELT pipelines and data integration processes for efficiency and cost.
- Implement data governance, security, and compliance (e.g., GDPR) across the DWH ecosystem.
- Mentor data engineers and architects on best practices for DWH design and optimization.
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency across all DWH components.
- Monitor and improve DWH performance through query optimization, indexing, and partitioning.
- Document architecture diagrams, data lineage, and metadata for transparency and auditability.
- Stay current with emerging trends in DWH technology, such as real-time analytics, data lakes, and AI-driven insights.

Experience

- 8+ years of experience in data warehousing, data architecture, or related fields, with 5+ years in a senior or leadership role.
- Expertise in cloud-based data warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, Azure Synapse) and data modeling (Kimball, Inmon, Data Vault).
- Strong background in SQL (advanced), Python, and ETL/ELT tools.
- Experience leading DWH modernization projects (e.g., migrating from on-prem to cloud).
- Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance (e.g., GDPR).
- Proven ability to design scalable, performant DWH solutions that meet business needs.
- Familiarity with real-time analytics, data lakes, and AI/ML integration is a plus.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and CI/CD pipelines for DWH deployments.

Languages

- Fluent in English (required for collaboration).
- Fluent in French or Dutch (required for client/stakeholder communication).
