The Spanish Marine & Aviation Underwriting Team within AXA XL provides insurance solutions for a diverse portfolio of large and corporate clients globally, offering a broad range of insurance solutions such as Marine Cargo, Project Cargo, Freight Forwarders Liability, Shipper’s Interest, general aviation, and airport liability policies.

We have a great opportunity for an experienced underwriter to join this successful team and support the expansion of the business.

Responsibilities

-

- Review submissions including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs and financial reports, while conducting appropriate research to determine the degree of risk for each account.

- Calculate risk premium by considering risk costs, reinsurance cessions and underwriting and general administration costs to ensure profitability.

- Proactively advise, assist, service and follow up with brokers/clients on insurance and risk management matters to ensure satisfaction and fulfillment of their requirements.

- Manage relationships to initiate cross‑selling opportunities and ensure account retention.

- Control timely implementation of new and renewed accounts in accordance with quality standards.

- Support the business planning and forecasting process; monitor financial exposure and premium income within outlined limits.

- Maintain awareness of all claims advised and support settlement of claims.

Qualifications

- University degree and knowledge of the maritime industry is highly considered.





- Knowledge of insurance industry fundamentals and proven experience in marine/cargo underwriting activities.

- Proficiency in English and Spanish required; other languages are a plus.

- Experience using selling and negotiation techniques; adapt to customer needs and influence parties to reach positive outcomes.

- Analytical thinking, performing fact‑based and data‑based analysis of situations or issues; make swift and efficient decisions while maintaining focus on long‑term goals.

- Work collaboratively with colleagues of varying seniority and expertise to achieve collective goals.

- Ability to respond to a changing environment with flexibility and innovation.

- Cultivate key broker relationships to maintain a steady stream of business within underwriting appetite.
