ph3Overview /h3 pAWS is set to introduce the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), marking a significant development in utility computing (UC). To spearhead this initiative, we are actively seeking experienced senior systems engineers with a strong background in automation and operations. As part of the AWS Managed Operations team, you will play a pivotal role in building and leading operations and development teams dedicated to delivering high‑availability AWS services, including EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock, exclusively for EU customers. For more information on ESC please check out our blog: /p h3Responsibilities /h3 pYour responsibilities will encompass overseeing the launch of the ESC in 2025, working closely with general AWS teams, and influencing the evolution of AWS services and technology. A typical day in this role involves collaborating with technology leaders, contributing to the enhancement of day‑to‑day operations, and ensuring improvements in availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC. You will be required to occasionally participate in on‑call rotations to resolve incidents occurring out‑of‑hours. /p h3Eligibility Requirements /h3 ul liFluency in written and spoken English is required. /li liCandidate must be a national of an EU member state and residing in the EU to operate the AWS European Sovereign Cloud. /li liAmazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants relocating within the European Union. /li liEmployees will participate in an On‑Call rota. /li /ul h3Basic Qualifications /h3 ul liThis role requires you to be a national of an EU member state. /li liDeep systems engineering experience, working with hardware, software, networking, and operating systems.
/li liProficient scripting processes in a language such as Bash, Python, or Ruby. /li liDeep expertise in Linux and networking with proven ability to conduct advanced system diagnostics, implement preventive measures, and resolve complex technical issues that impact system performance, reliability, scalability, and high availability across distributed software environments. Demonstrated success in root cause analysis, performance optimization, and implementing robust monitoring solutions to ensure seamless operation of mission‑critical systems. /li liProficient leading the creation, revision, and/or improvement of standard operational procedures (SOPs) and driving operational best practices. /li /ul h3Preferred Qualifications /h3 ul liExperience leading complex, cross‑functional initiatives that align multiple teams and stakeholders across organizational boundaries. /li liAbility to influence without direct authority. /li liExperience mentoring and developing teams and engineers. /li liExperience operating 24x7 high‑availability, distributed software applications and performance tuning software applications and optimizing fleet utilization. /li liExperience supporting service in AWS or other cloud systems or services. /li liProficient with Infrastructure as Code, such as CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar. /li /ul pAmazon is an equal opportunities employer.
