ph3Job Title /h3 pEmergency Department Technician; PRN /p h3Supervised by /h3 pED Nurse Manager, RN /p h3Job Summary /h3 pAssists with basic patient care based on individual patient needs within the scope of practice under direct supervision of the registered nurse. Maintains environment that is prepared for patient care. /p h3Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas /h3 ul liTakes, documents and reports vital signs. Reports abnormal results immediately to registered nurse. /li liTakes height and weight measurements. /li liPlaces ECG electrodes and attaches ECG monitor correctly. /li liAssists with setting up oxygen per instructions. /li liAssists registered nurse and physicians with assessments, examinations and treatment. /li liRecords IO, collects specimens. /li liNotifies appropriate licensed staff when patient complains of pain. /li liObserves, documents and reports patient condition and changes in condition to the registered nurse. /li liDemonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patients served. Able to interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group. /li liPerforms other duties as inservice, including crutch walking, dressing changes and assisting physician with splint or cast application. /li liPerforms and assists with technical skills as defined in scope of practice. /li liReceives and carries out instructions accurately and promptly. All patient care activities are delegated and supervised by the registered nurse. /li liTransports patients, as necessary. Assists with moving, ambulating and lifting patients. /li liDocuments patient care performed, including vital signs, bedside care and observations. /li liAdheres to hospital policy addressing standard precautions, safety regulations and guidelines. /li liCommunicates in an effective and efficient manner with all documentation, and with all co-workers, patients, visitors and physicians.



/li liResponds to patient and visitor questions and needs immediately and within established standards. /li liMaintains patient comfort and privacy. /li liPerforms all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. /li liSupports and maintains a culture of safety and quality. /li liMaintains and prepares rooms between patients and procedures. /li liAssists with preparation of equipment for procedures. /li liMonitors stock and restock supplies as needed. /li liMaintains policies and procedures established by the department. /li liParticipates in performance improvement activities. /li liAssists in cost containment through the appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment. /li liDemonstrates ability to work effectively as a multidisciplinary team member; supports and assists team members in all activities. /li liEnhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-services meetings and workshops; shows responsibility for ongoing education. /li liPerforms other related duties as assigned or requested. /li /ul h3Professional Requirements /h3 ul liMeets dress code standards for the department; appearance is neat and clean. /li liCompletes annual education requirements. /li liMaintains patient confidentiality at all times. /li liMaintains regulatory requirements. /li liReports to work on time and as scheduled. /li liWears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly. /li liRepresents the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community. /li liAttends annual review and department in-services as scheduled.



/li liAttends 12 staff meetings; or reads and returns all staff meeting minutes. /li liActively participates in the department’s continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. /li liComplies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. /li liCommunicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility as well as the focus statement of the department. /li /ul h3Regulatory Requirements /h3 ul liHigh School graduate or equivalent. /li liPreferred one (1) year experience in acute hospital setting or in ambulance. /li liCurrent BLS Certification. /li /ul h3Language Skills /h3 ul liAble to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. /li liAdditional languages preferred. /li /ul h3Skills /h3 ul liBasic computer knowledge. /li /ul h3Physical Demands /h3 ul liNormal hospital environment. Continuous exposure to biological hazards. Frequent exposure to unpleasant fumes and odors. Close eye work. Hearing of normal and soft tones. Distinguish smells; distinguish temperatures by touch and proximity. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. Lifting up to 100 pounds. Carrying up to 40 pounds. Pushing/pulling up to 350 pounds. /li liThis position is a safety sensitive position pursuant to Amendment 98 to the Arkansas Constitution § 2(25). A safety sensitive position means any position in which a person performing the position while under the influence of marijuana may constitute a threat to health or safety.
