The earth’s daily rotation causes profound, yet
repetitive, changes to environmental conditions. In response,
species from prokaryotes to humans have evolved circadian clocks to
drive anticipatory daily rhythms in biological processes ranging in
magnitude from DNA replication to sleep-wake cycles. However,
cellular, tissue and systemic circadian rhythms exhibit a
generalised decay during the ageing process that may contribute to
the development of aged-related diseases and onset of frailty. In
the Circadian Rhythms and Ageing Laboratory , we aim to determine
why this detrimental decay occurs and ask how we can correct or
exploit these changes. To help make these experimental dreams a
reality, we are looking to bring on board an experienced researcher
to take on the key role of Laboratory Manager . The successful
candidate will be responsible for ensuring a seamless day-to-day
running of the laboratory , whilst simultaneously providing
hands-on experimental support and technical training to help the
lab reach its academic goals. The adecuado candidate will have
demonstrable experience working with murine models of disease and a
strong academic grounding in the fields of oncology and/or ageing.
A PhD in a related research area and experience working with murine
disease models are essential requisites. Candidates with more
senior profiles are actively encouraged to apply. Main
responsibilities and duties: Coordinate and carry out tasks
essential to the day-to-day running of the laboratory (purchasing,
equipment maintenance etc.). Implement strategies to inventory
laboratory resources and ensure ease of access. Work together with
the PI to ensure a sound management of lab finances. Aid in the
on-boarding and training of new lab members. Provide punctual
experimental support to other researchers in the laboratory.
Education and qualifications: Required: A PhD in a related research
area Fluent in English (minimum: C1) and Spanish/Catalan FELASA
certificate level C Experience and knowledge: Required: Experience
studying mouse models of disease and colony management Proven
mastery of basic molecular biology (RT-qPCR, western-blot,
microscopy etc.) and cell culture techniques Experience generating
and analysing transcriptomic, metabolomic and proteomic datasets A
strong academic foundation in the fields of oncology and/or ageing
Desirable: Familiarity with the Spanish system of grants and
fellowships Experience working with organoid cultures Labour
