Purpose

The Associate Product Owner is responsible for maximizing the business value of Messaging tools and products. The role has a strong technical and operational understanding of Messaging products and, as this is primarily an internal-facing role, works closely with Product Managers to gain a clear understanding of the business problems customers need the product to solve, as well as the vision and strategic direction of the overall portfolio. Working closely with the Product Managers, the Associate Product Owner works directly with selected partner customers to gain feedback on existing, in-flight and proposed product features. The APO uses this input plus their own experience to define what capabilities the product should deliver and the relative priority of delivering those capabilities. In order to deliver this value, the Associate Product Owner works hand-in-glove with their Scrum Team (or Scrum Teams in some cases) on a daily basis to scrub the Product Backlog, create Features and User Stories,



define Acceptance Criteria, set priorities, attend team stand‑ups, accept the “Done” stories from the team, demo the work done by the team to the wider community and generally be available to the team on a daily basis to answer questions about the features being developed. All requests for work to be performed by the Scrum Team are channeled through and prioritized by the Associate Product Owner.

Key Responsibilities

- Manages the Product Backlog.
- Manages Product roadmaps.
- Populates the Product Backlog with artifacts that provide the next level of detail to support the delivery of the product road map as defined with the Product Manager.
- Responsible for discussing the features of the product and supporting the functional analysis of the backlog and calling out priorities of the roadmap.
- Knows the costs of a delivery (project or release) in detail and in real time.
- Specifies Functional requirements, Non‑Functional Requirements & Acceptance Criteria.
- Identifies potential backlog items from defects discovered during service outages.
- Defines PI or Release time‑boxes and MVP for a release.
- Works with the Scrum Team to define Sprint goals.
- Attends Scrum team Daily Stand‑ups, Sprint Planning, clarifies requirements for the team, attends demos, and accepts or rejects the team’s work during the sprint and at the End of Sprint Review.




- Demos the teams’ work to the wider SITA community & customers and early versions to customers.
- Contributes to the Product Vision with the Product Manager and understands customers’ business and the outcomes they want delivered.
- Works with the Product Manager to shape the Portfolio Vision.

Qualifications
- Business, Engineering or Science related qualification to at least bachelor’s degree level typically (other degree level backgrounds considered).
- Experience of working directly with agile scrum teams.
- Experience of working directly with customers.
- Fluent in both written and spoken English.
- International work experience is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of the Air Transport Industry and the messaging standards (IATA Type B, Type X, EDIFACT) highly desirable.
