ph3Job Title /h3 pCertified Nurse Aide or Mental Health Tech (can be uncertified) /p h3Reports To /h3 pRN/Charge Nurse /p h3Job Summary /h3 pAssists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse in charge of the team and/or unit. /p h3Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas /h3 ul liProvides basic nursing care to non-acutely ill patients within the nursing assistant’s scope of practice that includes actions that meet psychosocial needs and physical needs. /li liProvides general aspects of care that meet psychosocial or physical needs or both simultaneously, within the nursing assistant’s scope of practice. /li liMeets communication needs of patients. /li liDemonstrates performance reflecting the initiative and responsibility expected of a nursing assistant. /li liPerforms other duties as assigned, within the Nursing Assistant’s scope of practice. /li liAssists in admission, transfer and discharge of patient. /li liPerforms basic patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age. /li liNotifies appropriate licensed staff when patient complains of pain. /li liDemonstrates ability to communicate to the nurse any observed changes in patient status and responses. Maintains awareness of the needs of the pediatric, geriatric and general patient population. /li liDemonstrates ability to assist with feeding patients and maintaining fluid balance with technique appropriate for patient’s age and physical condition. /li liProvides explanation to patient and family prior to administering care to patient, answers questions within scope of practice. /li liDemonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services within scope of practice. /li liCommunicates appropriately and clearly to team leader, co-workers and physicians. /li liConsults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
/li liProvides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population. /li liPerforms all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. /li liSupports and maintains a culture of safety and quality. /li liDemonstrates an ability to be adaptable, organized and function under stressful situations. /li liResponds to patient in emergency or physically distressful situations. /li liTreats patients and their families with respect and dignity. /li liInteracts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care. /li liMaintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments. /li liMeets current documentation standards and policies and completes within shift. /li liManages and operates equipment safely and correctly. /li liCoordinates and supervises patient care under the direct supervision of an RN. /li liDemonstrates knowledge of disease entities. /li /ul h3Professional Requirements /h3 ul liAdheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean. /li liMaintains regulatory requirements, including all federal, state, local regulations and accrediting organization standards. /li liMaintains patient confidentiality at all times. /li liReports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time. /li liWears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly. /li liCompletes inservices and returns in a timely fashion. /li liAttends annual review and department inservices, as scheduled.
/li liAttends 12 staff meetings annually or reads and returns monthly staff meeting minutes. /li liRepresents the organization in a positive and professional manner. /li liActively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. /li liComplies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. /li liCommunicates the mission, ethics and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus statement of the department. /li /ul h3Regulatory Requirements /h3 ul liPreferred: High School graduate or equivalent. /li liSuccessful completion of certified nursing assistant program. /li liCurrent BLS certification. /li /ul h3Language Skills /h3 ul liAble to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. /li liAdditional languages preferred. /li /ul h3Skills /h3 ul liBasic computer knowledge. /li /ul h3Physical Demands /h3 ul liMobility, sight, hearing, verbal communication, changes in temperature, exposure to disagreeable elements, exposure to biological, mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards. /li liFrequent standing and walking. /li liLift up to 100 pounds; carrying up to 40 pounds; pushing/pulling up to 450 pounds. /li liThis position is a safety sensitive position pursuant to Amendment 98 to the Arkansas Constitution § 2(25). A safety sensitive position means any position in which a person performing the position while under the influence of marijuana may constitute a threat to health or safety.
