Obtains insurance precertification, if required, for inpatients and observations. Preadmits patients. Answers multi-line telephone. Greets the public, patients, and visitors and directs them to the proper location. /p h3POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES /h3 ul liCollects and enters accurate demographic and financial data for patient registrations. /li liTears down charts, makes required copies, and distributes. /li liAdvance understanding of Insurance payors. /li liVerifies Medicaid coverage and assigns PCP, if necessary. /li liAccurately completes procedures for discharges and transfers. /li liChecks insurance cards for requirements regarding physician referrals and precertification. /li liPre notification of inpatient stays with insurance. /li liAssignment of ICD-10 CM and CPT codes for initial authorization of Inpatient and Observation stays. /li liPre-registers patients for scheduled admissions and outpatient services, verifying that prior authorization and physician referrals are in place, if required by their insurance company. /li liReviews and makes corrections to patient charts. /li liAnswers multi-line department telephone. Transferring calls to the appropriate location and relaying verbal and written messages accurately and promptly. /li liAnswers main telephone, when necessary, when that area is not manned. /li liOperates the public address system /li liGives instructions to visitors and patients.



/li liUses the computer to post walk-in payments and prints receipts. Write receipts for General Ledger payments. /li liReconciles cash drawer with receipts and forwards payments to cashier. /li liKnows how to operate and maintain departmental equipment. /li liLogs patient valuables in and out of the hospital safe. /li liDeals with the public utilizing guest relation skills. /li liParticipates in educational programs and in-service meetings. /li liFollows hospital policy on confidentiality. /li liRotates holidays and fills in on weekends, when needed. /li liPerforms other related duties as assigned or requested. /li /ul h3Requirements /h3 h3JOB SPECIFICATIONS /h3 h3Minimum education: /h3 ul liHigh school or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred. /li /ul h3Minimum experience /h3 ul liTwo or three years' experience in patient registration desired. One year experience in ICD-10CM and CPT coding experience. Insurance notification experience.
