Cisco is seeking a government affairs and public policy professional to join its global Government Affairs team. Based in Madrid and reporting to the Vice President of Government Affairs for Europe, the role involves leading Cisco’s government engagements and public policy efforts throughout Spain and Portugal.

We are a integral team of government and public policy experts who represent Cisco at the highest levels of government, building relationships, advancing policy goals, and educating governments about the technology industry.

Your Impact

As Spain and Portugal Government Affairs Manager, you will represent Cisco with leaders at all levels, facilitate engagement, formulate and implement policy solutions that advance Cisco’s business, and help power an inclusive future.

Key Responsibilities

- Cultivate relationships with key government leaders, elected officials, and policymakers to convey Cisco’s perspective

- Engage Cisco in local policymaking and regulatory processes, including industry coalitions, hearings, and meetings

- Develop and execute advocacy strategies to advance public policy initiatives

- Support public sector sales and business development teams with policy initiatives

- Monitor and analyze political and policy trends across Spain and Portugal





- Prepare and present position papers, regulatory filings, testimony, and briefings

- Work closely with Cisco’s leadership in Spain and Portugal and other senior executives globally, providing clear explanations of regulatory matters

- Foster cross-border collaboration with Government Affairs colleagues in Europe and globally

Minimum Qualifications

-

- 5+ years of political and public policy experience from government, corporate affairs, trade associations, law firms, or public policy institutions

- Comprehensive understanding of Spain and Portugal’s political and regulatory landscape

- Familiarity with public policy issues affecting the technology industry locally and globally

- Near-native fluency in Spanish and English

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in telecommunications and technology sectors

- Strong political judgment and relationship-building skills

- Excellent communication, collaboration, and advocacy skills

- Professional proficiency in Portuguese

- Degree in political science, business, law, economics, or related field

Travel Requirements

Travel throughout Spain and Portugal, and occasionally wider.
