ppJob Reference: 351_26_ES_CES_R2 /p pPosition: PostDoctoral Researcher for climate services – Climate predictions (R2) /p pClosing Date: Wednesday, 16 September 2026 /p pStarting date: ASAP /p h3Overview /h3 pThe Barcelona Supercomputing Center – Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC‑CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain, home to MareNostrum, one of Europe’s most powerful supercomputers. The Earth System Services Group (ESS) within the Earth Sciences Department researches the impacts of weather, atmospheric chemistry and climate on socio‑economic sectors such as renewable energy, agriculture, water resources, urban development and climate risk management. ESS is looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to contribute to next‑generation climate services, with a primary focus on renewable energy while supporting applications in agriculture and water management. /p h3Key Duties /h3 ul liPerform user‑oriented research and post‑processing of climate predictions to develop climate services products. /li liDevelop automated workflows for data loading, post‑processing, evaluation, visualization and persistence, following coding standards and testing practices, deployable on HPC systems. /li liPublish results in peer‑reviewed scientific papers and present at international conferences. /li liCollaborate with scientists in the group and department to foster synergies. /li liParticipate in project proposal preparation and EU project work‑package management, including teleconferences, workshops, meetings and deliverable writing.
/li liEngage with users of climate services. /li /ul h3Qualifications /h3 ul libEducation /b ul liDegree in Physics, Environmental Sciences, Mathematics (or equivalent). /li liPhD in atmospheric sciences, applied statistics or related field. /li /ul /li libEssential Knowledge and Professional Experience /b ul liExperience handling, analysing and validating large climate model datasets. /li liExperience with climatic statistical analyses. /li liExperience working with sub‑seasonal, seasonal or decadal climate predictions. /li liProficiency in scientific programming (e.g. R, Python) and familiarity with UNIX environments. /li liStrong written and verbal communication skills in English, particularly for scientific publications. /li liAbility to work in a multidisciplinary and international team setting. /li /ul /li libAdditional Knowledge and Professional Experience /b ul liExperience using climate information to support the energy sector (e.g. climate indicators for renewable energy production). /li liResearch expertise in climate science, climate impacts on society, or climate risk is encouraged; experience in energy, agriculture or water management companies or consultancy is also welcome.
