It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, was a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), and is now hosting entity for EuroHPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads large-scale investments and HPC provision in Europe. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress. It has been entrusted by the Spanish and the Catalan governments with the mission to develop fundamental open- source resources and technologies for Spanish and Catalan. In connection with this, the LM team is currently in charge of two flagship projects at the national and regional level: the ALIA project, funded by the Spanish Secretariat of Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence, and the AINA project, aimed at developing AI resources for Catalan, funded by the Catalan Digitalisation Department. In addition, the Unit participates in various EU funded international projects. In this context, the newly created AI Institute is looking for talent to help design and improve its operations and infrastructure. /p pThe Language Modeling Team is looking for candidates with a background in computational linguistics with experience in Language Technologies, specifically in Deep Learning and large language model building, and possibly in other areas of Natural Language and Speech Processing. /p pThe successful candidate will work in a highly sophisticated HPC environment, have access to state-of-the-1art systems and computational infrastructures,
and establish collaborations with experts in different areas at the local and international levels. /p pThe researcher will implement innovative techniques for language modelling and evaluation in the HPC environment. /p h3Key Duties /h3 ul liLead the design and implementation of agentic workflows focusing on multi-step reasoning, tool-use and autonomous decision-making. /li liArchitect the integration of Model Context Protocol (MCP) and Function Calling capabilities into the group’s core language models. /li liSupervise the development of robust agent evaluation frameworks to measure reliability, safety and tool-interaction accuracy. /li liCollaborate with the infrastructure team to ensure scalable deployment of agentic systems in high-performance computing environments. /li liProvide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and intermediate researchers by defining the roadmap for the agentic capabilities of the models. /li liContribute to the scientific community through high-quality publications in top-tier conferences like NeurIPS, ICLR or ACL and Open Source projects. /li /ul h3Requirements /h3 ul liEducation ul liPhD or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence or related field. /li /ul /li liEssential Knowledge and Professional Experience ul liProven track record in developing LLM-based agents, function calling systems, or complex AI pipelines. /li liExpert knowledge of Python and Deep Learning frameworks like PyTorch or JAX. /li liDeep understanding of Transformer architectures and recent advances in Agentic AI such as MCP, ReAct or AutoGPT-style patterns. /li liExperience with distributed training and large-scale model deployment. /li liExcellent level of English (written and spoken). /li /ul /li liAdditional Knowledge and Professional Experience ul liStrong track record of high-quality publications in top-tier conferences like NeurIPS, ICLR, or ACL. /li liSignificant contributions to Open Source projects in the field of LLMs or agents. /li liFluency in Spanish is highly valued. /li liKnowledge of co-official languages of Spain such as Catalan, Basque or Galician is a significant plus. /li /ul /li liCompetences ul liStrong leadership and mentorship abilities to guide junior researchers. /li liExcellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences. /li liProject management skills with the ability to define and execute research roadmaps. /li liProactive attitude and ability to work in a high-performance computing environment. /li /ul /li /ul h3Conditions /h3 ul liThe position will be located at BSC within the Directors Department /li liWe offer a full-time contract (35h/week), a good working environment,

In this phase, technical competencies, knowledge, skills, and professional experience related to the position, as well as the required personal competencies, will be evaluated. - 60 points.
