ph3Who we are /h3 /brpHelsing is a defence AI company. Our mission is to protect our democracies. We aim to achieve technological leadership, so that open societies can continue to make sovereign decisions and control their ethical standards. /p /brpAs democracies, we believe we have a special responsibility to be thoughtful about the development and deployment of powerful technologies like AI. We take this responsibility seriously. /p /brpWe are an ambitious and committed team of engineers, AI specialists and customer-facing programme managers. We are looking for mission-driven people to join our European teams – and apply their skills to solve the most complex and impactful problems. We embrace an open and transparent culture that welcomes healthy debates on the use of technology in defence, its benefits, and its ethical implications. /p /brh3The role /h3 /brpAs a bPhD research intern in 3D computer vision /b, you will tackle open research problems in spatial perception and localisation, and explore how novel approaches can push the state of the art. /p /brpYou will join our bSpatial Intelligence Team /b, which builds systems for scene matching, geo-registration, simultaneous localisation and mapping (SLAM), visual-inertial odometry (VIO), and 3D reconstruction. You will investigate how the latest advances in the research community can add value to deployable systems, prototype the most promising ideas, and evaluate them rigorously under real-world data distributions and compute constraints. /p /brpYou will work closely with a team distributed across Europe, alongside globally renowned AI experts, while collaborating with a broader team across Europe. /p /brh3The day-to-day /h3 /brul /brlipSurvey and critically assess state-of-the‑art research in geometric computer vision, feature matching, place recognition, and SLAM/VIO. /p /li /brlipConceptualise how emerging techniques could apply to our localisation and reconstruction pipelines, and discuss trade‑offs with the team. /p /li /brlipEvaluate the strengths and weaknesses of different algorithmic approaches for concrete, mission‑critical use cases.
/p /li /brlipPrototype and benchmark promising concepts against real‑world operational conditions such as changes in illumination, viewpoint, season, or sensor modality. /p /li /brlipSummarise findings in clear, concise written reports and present them to the team. /p /li /br /ul /brh3You should apply if you /h3 /brul /brlipAre currently pursuing a bPhD /b in computer vision, machine learning, robotics, or a closely related field. /p /li /brlipHave demonstrated theoretical and practical experience in blocalisation, scene matching, SLAM, visual odometry, or 3D reconstruction /b. /p /li /brlipAre proficient in bPython /b and experienced with AI frameworks such as bPyTorch. /b /p /li /brlipHave experience with bRust or C++ /b. /p /li /brlipAre able to work reliably and independently, and enjoy turning research ideas into working code. /p /li /br /ul /brpNote: We operate at an intersection where women, as well as other minority groups, are systematically under‑represented. We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet all the listed qualifications; ability and impact cannot be summarised in a few bullet points. /p /brh3Nice to have /h3 /brul /brlipPublished a paper, ideally on applied computer vision, at a top‑tier conference or journal (e.g. CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS, ICLR, ICRA, IROS). /p /li /brlipExperience with learned feature matching, place recognition, VIO, or neural 3D representations (e.g. NeRF, Gaussian Splatting). /p /li /brlipExperience with model compression or domain adaptation for compute‑constrained or edge deployment. /p /li /brlipExperience with simulators, emulators, or synthetic data generation for geometry or localisation tasks. /p /li /br /ul /brh3Join Helsing and work with world‑leading experts in their fields /h3 /brul /brlipHelsing’s work is important.
You’ll be directly contributing to the protection of democratic countries while balancing both ethical and geopolitical concerns. /p /li /brlipThe work is unique. We operate in a domain that has highly unusual technical requirements and constraints, and where robustness, safety, and ethical considerations are vital. You will face unique Engineering and AI challenges that make a meaningful impact in the world. /p /li /brlipOur work frequently takes us right up to the state of the art in technical innovation, be it reinforcement learning, distributed systems, generative AI, or deployment infrastructure. The defence industry is entering the most exciting phase of the technological development curve. Advances in our field of world are not incremental: Helsing is part of, and often leading, historic leaps forward. /p /li /brlipIn our domain, success is a matter of order‑of‑magnitude improvements and novel capabilities. This means we take bets, aim high, and focus on big opportunities. Despite being a relatively young company, Helsing has already been selected for multiple significant government contracts. /p /li /brlipWe actively encourage healthy, proactive, and diverse debate internally about what we do and how we choose to do it. Teams and individual engineers are trusted (and encouraged) to practise responsible autonomy and critical thinking, and to focus on outcomes, not conformity. At Helsing you will have a say in how we (and you!) work, the opportunity to engage on what does and doesn’t work, and to take ownership of aspects of our culture that you care deeply about. /p /li /br /ul /brpbr/Helsing is an equal opportunities employer. We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability or gender identity. Please do not submit personal data revealing racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, data concerning your health, or data concerning your sexual orientation. /p /brpHelsing's Candidate Privacy and Confidentiality Regime can be found here. /p /p #J-18808-Ljbffr
