Provides assessment and planning for individualized patient care. Communicates with physicians about changes in patient’s clinical condition including fetal monitoring and results of diagnostic studies. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Performs general nursing duties in all Maternal-Child Health departments with adequate supervision. Participates in performance improvement activities. /p h3Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas /h3 ul liAble to assess neonate at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation according to AHA/AAP guidelines. Ability to conduct antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum assessments. /li liDemonstrates knowledge of fetal monitoring. Identifies FHR patterns and treats appropriately. /li liAbility to assess presenting part by Leopold Maneuver and/or digital exam. /li liAbility to assess fetal cardiac activity with ultrasound transducer and contraction activity with Toco transducer. /li liAbility to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management. /li liAbility to revise plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness. /li liPerforms patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age. /li liKnowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition. /li liFollows the seven (7) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. /li liFormulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate. /li liDemonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills. /li liDemonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services to level licensure. /li liTreats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.



Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers. /li liInteracts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care. /li liDemonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patient population served. uses computerized punch time system correctly. /li liCompletes in-services and returns in a timely fashion. /li liAttends annual review and department in-services, as scheduled. /li liAttends 12 staff meetings annually or reads and returns monthly staff meeting minutes. /li liRepresents the organization in a positive and professional manner. /li liActively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. /li liComplies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. /li liCommunicates the mission, ethics and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus statement of the department. /li /ul h3Requirements /h3 h3Regulatory Requirements /h3 ul liSuccessful completion of Neonatal Resuscitation Certification and Basic to Intermediate fetal monitoring course. /li liGraduate of an accredited school of nursing. /li liCurrent state Registered Nurse Licensure, within state of practice. /li liCurrent BLS certification. /li /ul h3Language Skills /h3 ul liAble to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. /li liAdditional languages preferred. /li /ul h3Skills /h3 ul liBasic computer knowledge. /li /ul h3Physical Demands /h3 ul liMobility, sight, hearing, verbal communication, changes in temperature, exposure to disagreeable elements, exposure to biological, mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards.
