Eurecat Technology Centre
Barcelona
Eurecat is the second Research & Technology Organisation in Spain and one of the largest applied research and technology transfer organisation in Southern
Europe. It brings together the experience of more than 800 professionals who generate an annual turnover of 69 million euros and provides services to more than 2,000 companies. Eurecat integrates advanced digital capabilities and experience in biotechnology, industry and sustainability and collaborates with industry in R+D+I activities and projects, offering advanced scientific and technological services and specialized knowledge to respond effectively to the technological needs of very different business sectors, accelerating innovation, reducing both risks and spendings on scientific and technological infrastructures. The technology center participates in more than 200 large national and international consortium projects of high strategic R&I;, has 230 patents and 10 spin-offs. Eurecat has eleven centers in Catalonia and presence in Madrid, Malaga and Chile.
Eurecat’sWater, Air and Soil Technology Unit (WAS) develops and optimises technologies and processes aimed at improving the management of water, air and soil, as well as recovering and valorising the resources associated with them. We collaborate with companies from a wide range of sectors on research, development and innovation projects designed to enhance their economic, environmental and social sustainability.
We combine advanced modelling tools with experimental capabilities at laboratory, pilot plant and full scale to develop, optimise and validate new technologies and applications. Our activities encompass pollutant treatment and monitoring, the reduction of pollutant releases into the environment, resource recovery and the transition towards circular economy models.
We design tailored solutions and experimental procedures, supporting companies throughout the innovation process:from initial conceptualisation and testing to demonstration and implementation. This progressive approach helps reduce the technical risks inherent in R&D;&I; projects.
The Unit’s multidisciplinary expertise, together with the capabilities ofEurecat’sdifferent technology areas, enables us to address complex and specific challenges in sectors including water treatment, the chemical, food and pharmaceutical industries, primary industries and capital goods manufacturing, among others.
To strengthen the WAS Technology Unit team, Eurecat is looking for an experienced(advanced)researcher to contribute to the preparation, coordination and implementation of national and international R&D;&I; projects related to biological technologies for the environmental treatment of air and gas streams.
What will you work on? Roles and responsibilities
- Drive the development of biological technologies withinEurecat’sAir and Gasesresearch line.
- Identify opportunities for new projects and carry out technology scouting and monitoring.
- Liaise with clients and partners to support project follow‑up.
- Prepare quotations and proposals for new projects at Catalan, Spanish and international level.
- Coordinate teams and/or manage technical tasks within R&D;&I; projects.
- Conceptualise, plan, supervise and carry out project tasks, as well as analyse experimental results.
Requirements
What are we looking for?
Do not worry if you do not meet 100% of the requirements. We are looking for committed, creative and versatile professionals with a strong ability to adapt.
- Bachelor’s degree inChemicalEngineering, Biotechnology, Environmental Engineering or a related field, together with aMaster’sdegree in sustainability or a related area.
- Experience in the biological treatment of gaseous effluents using technologies such asbioscrubbers, biotricklingfilters or similar systems.
- Experience in biological technologies for the valorisation of carbon dioxide and methane.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Experience in the conceptualisation and preparation of R&D;&I; project proposals.
- Ability to work autonomously, together with responsibility, initiative, scientific rigour and a results-oriented mindset.
Highly valued
- PhD in biological technologies for gas stream treatment or a related field.
- Knowledge of the Catalan, Spanish and European innovation ecosystems, including relevant organisations and competitive funding programmes.
- Scientific and technical knowledge of gaseous emissions monitoring and management.
- Scientific and technical knowledge of carbon dioxide capture and utilisation(CCU)technologies.
- Experience in the treatment of gaseous effluents using physicochemical technologies such as absorption, adsorption, catalysis or physical separation.
You will probably be a good fit for this position if…
- You have strong scientific and technical expertise in the application of biological technologies for the treatment of gaseous matrices.
- You are able towork in a dynamic environment and contribute to several projects simultaneously.
- You can effectively manage deadlines and the requirements of private-sector clients and project consortia.
- You are comfortable working at laboratory, pilot plant and/or demonstration scale.
- Youare able topropose technological solutions to real-world challenges faced by companies and society.
This position may not be the best fit for you if…
- You only have a superficial theoretical understanding of biological technologies for gas treatment and no proven practical experience.
- You have never worked in a gas laboratory environment, including the design, construction and operation of experimental systems or the use of instrumental analytical techniques.
- Your experience in air and gas technologies is limited to modelling and simulation, with no experimental laboratory experience.
- You would prefer to focus your professional development on academic research rather than transferring knowledge and technologies to companies to improve their competitiveness.
