The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, was a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), and is now hosting entity for EuroHPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads large-scale investments and HPC provision in Europe. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D; into both computer and computational science (life, earth and engineering sciences) under one roof, and currently has over 1000 staff from 60 countries.

Context And Mission
Our research group is looking for a highly motivated research engineer interested in accelerating applications with novel HPC architectures performing tasks within the Arm/BSC CoE project. Come join our group to address the challenge of accelerating traditional HPC, AI and bioinformatics workloads with increasingly large and complex datasets. In this exciting role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with a dynamic team of researchers and engineers, contributing to leading scientific research.
Key Duties
- Research on acceleration of HPC and AI workloads using software and hardware optimization techniques.
- Write scientific papers and actively engage in ongoing research lines and activities.
- Coordinate and attend project meetings, collaborate with other MSc/PhD students in the group, and contribute to research teams and project deliverables.
Requirements
- Education
- Degree/Master in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering (or a related area).
- Publications in recognized computer science or AI conferences or journals are a plus, but not essential.
- Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Strong background in hardware design, computer architecture, and performance analysis.
- Expertise in AI algorithms and data structures.
- Expertise in C/C++ programming, performance engineering, and low-level optimizations.
- Expertise in Python, Bash and basic Linux.
- Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Experience with HPC environments and applications, but not essential
- Competences
- Problem-solving, highly proactive, and result-oriented work attitude.
- Strong teamwork skills and capability to work with international partners.
- Strong communication skills, including proficiency in both written and verbal English.
- Autonomy in researching and exploring new problems and lines of inquiry.
Conditions
- The position will be located at BSC within the Computer Sciences Department
- We offer a full-time contract (35h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, adaptable working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
- Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
- Holidays: 22 days of holidays + 6 personal days + 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
- Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona
