CINTECX - Research Center for Technologies, Energy and Industrial Processes

Organisation / Company Universidade de Vigo Department CINTECX - Research Center for Technologies, Energy and Industrial Processes Is the Hosting related to staff position within a Research Infrastructure? No

This research line focuses on the design, synthesis and optimization of advanced functional materials—including biochar, hydrochar, MOFs, COFs and perovskites—for applications in electrochemical water splitting and Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs). It aims to overcome current limitations in catalytic systems (efficiency, cost and stability) through the integration of waste-derived precursors and innovative material engineering strategies, contributing to sustainable catalysis and circular economy approaches.

Research Area: ENV – Environmental Sciences

Prof. Mª Ángeles Sanromán Braga (Main Supervisor)
Head of the Bioengineering and Sustainable Processes Group (BIOSUV) and Director of CINTECX

The supervisory team provides complementary expertise in materials synthesis, electrochemistry, and environmental applications, ensuring high-quality guidance and interdisciplinary training.

Host Institution and Research Environment

The fellow will be hosted at CINTECX (Research Centre in Technologies, Energy and Industrial Processes) , a multidisciplinary centre at the Universidade de Vigo (UVigo) with more than 200 researchers and recognised as a CIGUS Collaborative Centre (2024–2027) .

CINTECX and UVigo holds the HR Excellence in Research Award and is internationally recognised for its research intensity and participation in European programmes, with extensive experience in Horizon Europe, ERC, and MSCA actions .

Key benefits for the fellow

- Extensive expertise in Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) and catalyst development
- Principal Investigator in numerous national and European projects (H2020, Interreg, Spanish Ministry)

- Strong track record in PhD and postdoctoral supervision
- Former roles at Spanish National Evaluation bodies (ANEP, AEI)
- Experience in waste valorisation and catalytic materials for water splitting
- Participation in funded projects (Spanish Ministry, AXA Foundation)
- Supervision of MSc and BSc theses

The fellow will benefit from:

- Structured mentoring and supervision.
- Training in proposal writing, Open Science, IP, and technology transfer.
