Company Description Saint Louis University, located in St. Louis, Missouri, is a Jesuit, Catholic university recognized as one of the nation’s top research institutions. Founded in 1818, it is the oldest university west of the Mississippi River and the second oldest Jesuit university in the United States.

In 1969, Saint Louis University established its Madrid campus, the first freestanding campus operated by an American university in Europe. Role Description The Part-Time Laboratory Instructor – Organic Chemistry will lead and supervise undergraduate organic chemistry laboratory sessions on-site at the Saint Louis University Madrid campus.

Responsibilities include preparing lab materials and equipment, delivering pre-lab instructions, guiding students through experiments, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols and institutional policies. The instructor will assist students in understanding experimental procedures, data collection, and analysis, as well as in maintaining accurate lab notebooks.



Additional duties include grading laboratory reports and assignments, providing constructive feedback, holding office or consultation hours, and collaborating with faculty and staff to support course outcomes.

This is a part-time, on-site position based in Madrid.

Qualifications

Strong background in organic chemistry and general chemistry, with experience in common laboratory techniques and safety practices.

Prior experience teaching, tutoring, or mentoring in a laboratory or classroom setting, ideally at the university level.

Ability to communicate complex scientific concepts clearly, support diverse learners, and foster an inclusive, respectful lab environment.

Organizational skills for managing lab preparation, scheduling, grading, and documentation with attention to detail.

Master’s degree or higher in Chemistry or a closely related field preferred; relevant bachelor’s degree with substantial laboratory experience considered.

Familiarity with Jesuit educational values and commitment to student-centered learning is an asset.

Proficiency in English; additional fluency in Spanish is beneficial for working in the Madrid campus context.
