Technical Design Lead

About the Client

Our client is a integral leader in battery manufacturing technology, operating at the forefront of large-scale energy storage and renewables. They are looking to hire a Technical Design Lead (home-based) to support their Grid and Project Development teams across a portfolio of projects spanning the EU. As the business grows and expands into new markets, there will be scope to contribute to that expansion.

The Role:

- Lead all aspects of power system network design, including application and negotiations, supporting the teams with technical and financial optimisation up to financial close and beyond
- Lead engineering feasibility studies and optimise the engineering solution through value engineering
- Support the design of large-scale energy storage plants (equipment sizing/rating, technical specifications, general design - SLD, layout, etc.); review and challenge contractor (ICP & BoP) design and engineering deliverables
- Carry out power/electrical system studies, including performance assessment for design assurance and transient/dynamic stability studies
- Develop power system design from 400kV down to LV to support engineering design and decision-making




- Support business development and procurement teams with technical and technical-economic analysis for tenders
- Support project delivery teams through basic/detailed design, construction and commissioning
- Ensure technical queries are correctly assessed and responded to
- Perform engineering tasks and implement engineering best practices
- Review key engineering deliverables produced by third-party consultants and contractors
- Own technical design standards and practices using tools such as BIM, 3D CAD and Digital Twins

Essential Competencies:

- Proven experience in electrical network design (renewable system design advantageous); excellent understanding of power system engineering
- Project management experience, including budgeting and engineering capex management, advantageous
- Strong understanding of power system network and renewable connection design from 400kV down to site LV, across technologies such as AIS & GIS substations, grid-forming inverters and control systems
- Experience with relevant software: DIgSILENT PowerFactory, BIM360, Revit, AutoCAD 3D
- Understanding of Transmission & Distribution (T&D;) networks and design requirements for all electrical equipment within an energy storage/renewable installation (equipment interference, blast and fire safety, access/egress for installation and O&M;, etc.)
- Genuine passion for clean energy and a social/environmental mission
- Experience in engineering, system planning or consultancy in the energy sector (B2B), ideally energy storage or renewables
- Desire to work in a fast-moving, high-pressure, entrepreneurial environment
