Description
About the job
Semiconductor supplier KD provides innovative high-speed optical networking for harsh environments. Making gigabit communications over fiber optics a reality, KD technology supplies multi Gb/s optical links for automotive, industrial, and home networks.
Founded in 2010 in Madrid, Spain, KD offer its cost-effective technology as either ASSP or IP (Intellectual Property) to be integrated in SoCs (System-on-Chips).
KD has about 75 employees, we are in full expansion due to the development of innovative products in the sector and the creation of a unique factory in Spain.
As a result, we are looking for a Opto-Mechanical Engineer.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Design and implementation of optical measurement test benches, mechanical interfaces, compact beam-delivery setups.
- Design and validation of optical connectors and collaboration with other companies to develop the fiber optic connector eco-system.
- Perform optical and mechanical simulations (VCSEL/PD to fiber coupling, beam propagation, thermal and vibration sensitivity, mechanical stiffness, etc.).
- Component reliability and qualification testing.
- Develop mechanical/optomechanical test procedures.
- Geometrical measurements and inspection of Fiber Optic Transceivers (FOTs), connectors, boards, etc., by using digital microscope and CMM equipment.
- Assembly, alignment, and characterization of optical modules.
- Develop stable free-space optical layouts (beam shaping, splitting, polarization management, mode-matching, fiber coupling).
- Development of assembly process, fixtures and tooling,
including tolerance analysis and edition of detailed mechanical drawings and assembly documentation.
- Support transition from R&D; prototypes to manufacturable, production-ready sub-systems.
What You Bring
- Education: BSc/MSc in Optics, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years' experience in Opto-Mechanical field.
- Hands-on experience in building, aligning and testing optical and opto-mechanical setups and assemblies is required.
- Experience with optical simulation tools (Zemax/OpticStudio, CodeV, or Python/MATLAB beam-propagation tools) is required.
- Ability to generate clear documentation: assembly drawings, alignment procedures, test reports.
Knowledge & Skills
- Programming skillsets using Python or Matlab for numerical models and data analysis using libraries such as numpy, scipy and pandas is required.
- Experience in mechanical design and simulation using modern 3D design software like Ansys Mechanical, Solidworks, Autocad, Catia, Inventor or similar.
- Familiarity with Geometric Design & Tolerancing (GD&T;).
- Analytical skills, including data analysis.
- Knowledge of version control software is welcome.
