Compliance Specialist - EU
6 month fixed-term contract, Full Time
Location: Adaptable on location in Spain and visits to our Madrid office as and when required.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Compliance Specialist to join our Risk & Compliance team here at Domestic and General. This temporary strategic role will provide short term coverage to ensure continuity across key compliance activities and major regulatory change programmes. The primary focus will be on leading and coordinating DGIEU's response to upcoming Spanish legal and regulatory changes while maintaining oversight of essential compliance advisory, monitoring, and governance responsibilities. The role is designed to ensure that DGIEU remains compliant, well prepared, and strategically aligned during a period of resource constraint.
Key Responsibilities
- Regulatory Change Leadership: Drive and coordinate DGIEU’s preparation for upcoming Spanish regulatory changes, assessing impacts and ensuring timely and well governed implementation.
- Conduct horizon scanning for relevant EU and local regulatory developments.
- Strategic Compliance Oversight: Provide senior level regulatory advice on products, processes, and initiatives.
- Support the execution and oversight of the Compliance Plan for Europe.
- Continuity of Core Compliance Activities:
Maintain oversight of the policy framework, ensuring adherence to internal standards.
- Provide high-level review and signoff on key compliance-related documents where required.
- Act as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders on compliance matters.
- Monitoring & Assurance (Light-Touch): Oversee progress of ongoing risk-based compliance monitoring activities.
- Ensure findings, actions, and compliance risks are clearly communicated and escalated.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Governance: Liaise with Compliance, Legal, Risk, Operations, and Client Management across Europe.
- Support reporting into governance committees and senior management as needed.
- Training & Awareness (High-Level Input Only): Provide strategic input into compliance communication and awareness activities.
Skills And Experience Required
- Experience in compliance within insurance or financial regulated services.
- Proven expertise in regulatory change, ideally with exposure to Spanish or EU regulations.
- Ability to operate autonomously at a senior level, making sound judgments and influencing stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills, able to simplify complex topics for various audiences.
- Strong analytical and risk assessment skills.
- Fluent in English and Spanish.
