We are looking for a highly skilled Digital Systems Engineer to own the system architecture, hardware-software integration, and automated verification of our OpenVPX computing platforms. This is a high-impact role working directly at the boundary of hardware and software—bringing Intel Core Ultra and NVIDIA GPU systems to life.

You will be responsible for developing the automated test architectures (ATE) required to validate hardware performance in harsh environments. This is a permanent, strategic position. Following the successful bring-up of new VPX modules, you will take ownership of our automated testing roadmap, ensuring our systems remain stable during thermal cycling, shock, and vibration, with the automated data to prove it.

Key Responsibilities

- System Architecture: Lead the design architecture and functional verification of new VPX modules, integrating Linux drivers and modifying device trees to enable hardware peripherals.
- Automated Verification: Design, build, and maintain automated test benches tailored for VPX backplane breakout and health monitoring.
- Characterization: Develop solutions to automate hardware margin analysis, power rail monitoring, and protocol exercising under extreme temperatures.
- Protocol Debugging: Utilize protocol analyzers and exercisers (PCIe/Ethernet) to solve complex system-level "handshake" failures and digital communication issues.
- Validation Execution: Execute DO-160 and functional tests during Environmental Stress Testing (ESS) to ensure digital systems remain stable during thermal cycling, shock, and vibration.

Required Technical Skills

- Core Hardware Stack: Deep knowledge of OpenVPX, PCIe Gen 4/5, high-speed fiber routing, and VITA 62 power standards.
- Hardware Tools: Expert-level proficiency with Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs), high-end Oscilloscopes (16GHz+), and Time Domain Reflectometers (TDRs) for signal characterization.
- Design Tools: High proficiency in schematic capture and guiding complex, high-density PCB layouts.
- Hardware Fluency: Familiarity with high-speed interfaces (PCIe Gen 4/5, 10G Ethernet) and the ability to read and interpret hardware schematics to aid in software-driven debugging.

Professional Experience

- 4–7 years bridging hardware and software, ideally within embedded or ruggedized systems.
- Proven track record of designing and building automated test benches and executing functional verification plans.
- Experience in high-speed digital and mixed-signal hardware environments.
- Experience with Environmental Stress Testing (ESS) or MIL-STD/DO-160 compliance execution is a significant plus.

Soft Skills

- The "Boundary" Ability: Can seamlessly communicate with both pure hardware designers and pure software developers to isolate complex system-of-systems issues.
- Analytical Problem Solving: A passion for utilizing protocol analyzers to deconstruct complex digital "handshake" failures between modules and backplanes.

Typical Experience

4 to 7 years.

Typical Education

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Electronics, or Computer Science.
