If the answer is 'yes',you could be the personwe'relooking for to join the editorial team ofNature.Nature, the international weekly journal of science,seeksto appoint an editor that will further our aim to publish the world's best original research. This position will cover a broad range of the Earth and planetary sciences including, but not limitedto:geophysics, geochemistry, seismology,geodynamicsand geology. The ideal candidate will have a strong and quantitative geosciences background in any relevant discipline and a proven interest in (and good working knowledge of)



the study of the Earth and terrestrial planets.The successful candidate will play a key role indeterminingthe representation and development of these fields in our pages through the selection of manuscripts for publication and by interacting closely with the relevant research communities. This is a demanding and intellectually stimulating position and calls for a keen interest in the practice and communication of science and technology.Experience, Skills & Qualifications:·Research experience to PhD level (or equivalent) in a relevant Earth sciences discipline.·A passion for science and research and a thirst to learn more. You must be able todemonstratethe breadth of your interest in scientific research, both within and beyond yourspeciality. (Note that extensive editorial training is offered to help new editors become comfortable with handling a broad field ofresearch.)·The ability to read and assess the novelty, context and implications of researchsubmittedto the journal from different areas of this discipline.·Excellent time-management skills,in order toefficiently navigate multiple time-sensitive activities and shifting priorities.·Be eager to interact with scientists worldwide, learn more about them and their research, and help them learn more about us and what we are looking for in the papers weseekto publish.·Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be fluent in English (written and spoken).Role Responsibilities:The successful candidate will report to the Deputy Editor of the geosciencesteam, butalso work closely with editorial colleagues from across the Nature teams - they will be expected to playan important rolein influencing the representation of their fields in thejournal as a whole. They will handle original research papers and review material:



the ability to offer well-reasoned andtimelyeditorial decisions onsubmittedmanuscripts in the light of expert advice is crucial. They will liaise extensively with editors at other journals in the Nature family and experts in the international research community. Editorial experience is notrequired, although applicants with significant editorial experience are encouraged to apply and will potentially be considered for a Senior Editor position (and the possibility of internal promotion to the Deputy Editor role).The position is offered on a full-time, permanent basis (ideally starting in summer2026).
