Professor Rodika Elisabeth Sokoliuk, from the Department of Experimental Psychology at the University of Granada, welcomes postdoctoral candidatesinterested inapplying for a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA-PF)in 2026 at this University.

Brief description of the institution: The University of Granada (UGR), founded in 1531, is one of the largest and most important universities in Spain. With more than 57,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students and almost 7,000 members of staff, the UGR offers 97 undergraduate degrees, 157 master’s degrees (7 of which are double degrees) and 28 doctoral programmes via its 124 departments and nearly 50 centers.

Brief description of the Centre/Research Group: The Research Center for Mind, Brain, and Behavior (CIMCYC; https://cimcyc.ugr.es/en ), of the University of Granada (UGR) is dedicated to excellence in research in Psychology and related scientific fields.

It brings together researchers committed to the study of the brain, the mind, and individual, group, and social behavior, using both established and innovative methodologies.
CIMCYC provides a dynamic environment for training and professional development for more than 250 people who collaborate with regional, national, and international researchers.
Further,



the CIMCYC was accredited in 2024 as a Maria de Maeztu Unit of Excellence by the Spanish State Research Agency of the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities.
It offers an excellent research infrastructure with a 3T Siemens Prisma scanner, multiple EEG systems, eye tracking systems, and TMS.

As part of the Human Brain & Cognition research group, led by María Ruz and Daniel Sanabria, the supervisor candidate is exposed to a multidisciplinary group that conducts research within the fields of cognitive neuroscience and experimental psychology and uses a range of experimental methods to measure behavior, as well as brain activity through magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and electroencephalography (EEG).

Since recently, an angle of applied research on disorders of consciousness has been added to the group’s expertise, originating from the supervisor candidate.
The line of research I am pursuing in my work is at the interface between basic research in cognitive neuroscience and applied research in disorders of consciousness.

More specifically, I am applying cognitive paradigms to healthy individuals (as a proxy for a conscious brain) to develop tools that probe the integrity of specific cognitive processes (e.g., attention, perception, working memory) in unresponsive patients with disorders of consicousness (DoC).

Apart from providing a more detailed picture of the patients’ cognitive state, these combined assessments of EEG and passive behavioural paradigms, can contribute to a more accurate diagnosis and prognosis of this patient group.

My area of expertise focuses on the role of oscillatory brain patterns as markers for cognitive processes, how (and why) these markers are altered in unresponsive DoC patients, what a preservation of these markers can tell us about the patients’ outcome, and what perspective they provide to inform neurorehabilitation interventions in these patients.
